Thoughts on "Student Counsel" · 12:55am Jun 9th, 2019
I am currently aching from running a Dirty Dash today, have been making some final small preparations for my family's California trip and hoping I don't end up forgetting anything, and here I am deciding to jump in with quick thoughts on today's episode, given that I won't be able to give myself a few days to chew on it. So...
Office hours are a thing, Starlight, why did you not set that up before instead of pager bracelet making you available 24/7?
Why did the Mane Six just ditch the school for a Spring Solstice (it's called an equinox, get it right!) party before the students were out for Spring Break?
Why is Silverstream going to the school counselor instead of a tutor for help with her homework? Are the tutors off too?
Congratulations, show, you made me hate the school thing even more.
Trixie was right to intervene (although she was kind of a flip-flop later).
The search for Silverstream in the Everfree Forest is where things picked up and got interesting enough to make me stop pulling my hair in frustration. Plenty of tension with the Forest now infested with cockatrices all trying to petrify our party. Although, with all those cockatrices flying around, it makes me wonder what exactly that one in Tartarus did to get locked up...
Yanno, turning to stone doesn't sound fun, I don't know if I'd be awake or even alive, but if I was I'd probably be super uncomfortable because when my mind gets moving I get moving so if I'm alone with with my thoughts but can't move I'd probably be forever internally screaming and feeling incredibly anxious because running and jumping around helps me process my thoughts better.
Also... this is gonna sound crazy coming from me... but Maud's lovey-dovey lines (well, as lovey-dovey as she can be) towards or about Mudbriar were actually kind of funny. I guess it's possible to improve the stale rock joke by adding romance into the mix... whether she's in a relationship herself or just a shipper.
And Mudbriar got a little character development... he's getting signals that his "technicalities" aren't always welcome, and is at least trying to correct his behavior. Good boy, Muddy! Have a pretzel stick (I assume you like those).
I'm probably the only one who didn't want Mudbriar to stay a statue... come on, petrification is too extreme a punishment for being annoying.
So, uh... just an annoying first half and a pretty fun second half. Guess that's what I've got. *shrug*
I guess the introduction entertainment depends on whether or not you like the school, I found it fine, so I enjoyed the episode all the way through.
Because she wouldn't get much business before. Remember she would complain about nobody visiting. Starlight is a character who doesn't think things though most of the time.
Good point I think because they wanted spent time together *Shugs*
What tutors? The only tutors mentioned was the CMC. they are most likely busy or with family. Or the writers dropped that plot point must likely.
