i have several unpublished stories in the bank, but this one popped into my head, and like my last one-shot, it is not going away.
but unlike that, it would be a multi-chapter. not too long (maybe 3-4 chapters), but it's not totally polished yet and i don't want to release it with so many uncertainties. like, is it even going to be liked? does that matter? should i just wait until i've written all the chapters until posting so i don't lose steam in the middle and never finish it like with Unicorn Interpreter (which i could see myself finishing someday, with another chapter or two)
so, short synopsis:
cadence picks up a new apprentice. don't know if this is a universal headcanon for her or just in the weedverse by kudzuhaiku, but in this story, Cadence heads a therapy program in the Crystal Empire, like, teaching therapist ponies to heal the mind, and even has a few patients herself.
the apprentice is a filly, Harvest Moon, who's special talent is heightened empathy magic and the transfer of that empathy. the story begins when this tiny nine-year-old beats the crap out of her friend's dad because she touched her and gains her memories of being sexually assaulted by her father, overtaken by her friend's pain and want for revenge, super dark, but it's not very detailed, and the rest of the story is much tamer.
but in the beating up of the dad, she, with her cutie mark specialty magic, transfers the experience of the memories to the father and makes him feel everything his daughter did. it changes him, makes him regret his actions and admit to what he did.
the main theme of this story is "healing"
ponies Harvest Moon will help, Cadence helping Harvest, but to do so, she has to give a piece of herself to every victim, feeling everything they felt, and carrying that weight on her heart and mind.
Cadence, Shining Armor and Flurry Heart very much become a second family to Harvest, teaching her that despite everything horrible in the world, there are ponies who will still care.
the first chapter is almost done, and i gotta say, im not usually one for going quite so grim in my stories, but this is something that won't get out of my head until i write it. and i like the headcanon of Cadence being a healer, and Harvest Moon will very much serve a similar purpose to kudzuhaiku's Wardens.
