My 5th Live-Action Inspiration for How I View the Storm King, as Well as Keep Him in Character · 2:08pm Apr 22nd, 2019

My fifth live-action inspiration.

Gosh, I can hardly believe I’ve come this far in terms of posting about inspirations. I found myself craving to make another post regarding this subject more than any other kind, really.

Anyway...

My fifth inspiration in regards to the Storm King comes from this guy below:

I realize that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales isn’t one of the most popular films or installments of the series, but, I would definitely like to point out that the film’s main antagonist, Captain Salazar, is actually what I’d like to call one of the series’ very best villains. Javier Bardem did an awesome portrayal of the character, even being able to make him an intimidating and serious force to be reckoned with.

I find this character to be an inspiration to me because I believe that, just like him, the Storm King was a ruthless and relentless killer. Salazar’s intentions were to kill every single pirate in the seven seas, because he believed pirates to be nothing but filthy vermin that needed to be exterminated, like cockroaches. Along with that, he has a certain ruthless personality and sense of humor.

To me, even though his time on the screen was short, the Storm King was just like Salazar. He believed that any being outside of his own species were like bugs that needed to be exterminated, and that concepts such as friendship and love were like a disease. And so, he would travel the land not just to take treasure, but to cause massacres everywhere he went.

When I think about it more, I’m also finding Salazar to be inspirational for characterizing the Storm King in another subject: a spirit. A ghost with wounded pride and a thirst for revenge because of getting defeated and humiliated by his foes. It’s actually even inspired me on when it comes to building a story about the Storm King making a comeback.

What do you guys think?

I can see where the inspiration definitely comes in; though I admit I never saw this installment in the series.

But from the brief scenes I've seen of this character in action, I immediately start thinking of 'The Storm King'. It's not enough to destroy every neighboring kingdom or stealing their treasures, he makes it clear he's not in it to rule over anybody but to destroy everything that doesn't fit his image. No doubt that if The Storm King were to comeback as a spirit, even if not on the actual show, this is the way I'd see him returning. To be defeated by ponies (Especially one he betrayed anyway) has got to be the worst way for someone like 'The Storm King' to go and consequently his time in the movie was far too brief to know if he was truly a serious threat (Doesn't help if you never read the comics where he's most prominent).

I'd say the comparisons are pretty close as to far as who The Storm King can relate to.

I actually think you would really enjoy the next chapter I have that you have to read. It includes a stormy surprise!

That was creepy. :twilightoops: Also, I can't decide if that title drop was clever or cringy. :applejackunsure: The Storm King has a more explosive temper than Salazar though. Then again, it's totally unfair for me to compare a three-and-a-half-minute clip to a two-hour movie.

I've never seen Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales yet, but this guy is better than Storm King.

How do you know that if you didn’t see the film?

I saw the trailer, duh!

The more I read these types of posts from you, the more convinced I am that you would greatly appreciate the lore of the Bloodborne universe if not for the gratuitous amount of blood and gore. You seem to have a nack for disceting characters with dark personas and their relationship with the entropic decay of society as a whole.

:applejackconfused:Would you mind clarifying on that?

To simplify:

You look at a character with flaws or objectives that you disagree with on an ethical level, but you take their flaws and convictions as elements that bring depth to the character and the narrative as a whole.
You look at an antagonist and see them as persons with goals and ambitions instead of as two dimensional characters.

5048543
Ahhhh. Well, then, you’re definitely right about that.

But to further clarify:
You also sometimes relate the character's flaws and associate them as metaphores for the state of the world they happen to inhabit.
For example: you reference the goals of The Storm King and acknoledge that he is only a product of the world as he saw it.
I dare say that although you disagree with him, his goals, and his methods: you see that as far as the big picture goes; unfortunately, he does have a point.
He's not right, but he isn't exactly wrong either.

I...don’t really know how to respond to this. You actually hit everything with a bullseye there.

Have you considered the possibility of a career in the field of Psychology?:derpytongue2:

You've certainly got the insight for it.

5048671
Not really.

As a matter of fact, I’ve always dreamed of not just becoming an all-out writer, but also a filmmaker, actor, and comedian (performing and improvisation, not stand-up).

Writing, acting, and directing are all basically Applied Psychology :derpytongue2:
Just like how Cooking is Applied Chemistry or how being an Electritian is Applied Mathematics.

Go for it:eeyup:
