It's ya boi 'Dr Constant Updates Without Putting My Money Where My Mouth Is' · 12:04pm Apr 19th, 2019
Hello,
As you see by the title, I am very aware that a few weeks back I was all 'Oooh lads get ready for one of them new stories haha I will definitely follow up on this' and then didn't post anything.
So, in keeping with that tradition, I'm here to give a couple updates on incoming stories. But first, something redacted!
I've decided to sack the idea of putting out an alternate ending to After I Looked Up, The Stars Had Gone Away since I think it does what it was supposed to do well enough as is and don't want an different ending, no matter how much it was meant to be a fun little extra, to complicate that.
So now I've actually gone far enough to put out a kind of 'negative update', I'll provide something a little more tangible. Instead of just coyly winking from behind the sad shower curtain of literary privacy I've wrapped around myself, here's some actual details of stuff to come. In terms of new stuff, I'm pretty happy sticking with dark and horror for the time being. I have tonnes of ideas beyond that but there are two stories that I'm actually properly writing and they're dark/horror.
Story 1: The Forest King
Short Summary: There was a book of proverbs Twilight had when she was a filly, she can still remember some of it.
"There is more magic on this earth than that from horns of unicorns or wings of pegasi."
Projected Word Count: ca. 15k

From the Idiot Writing It: So, this is the one I was talking about in that previous post. I've had the idea for a good long while. It's very, very dark. Quite a bit darker than I expected actually. I was intending this one to be one chapter and about 6k words and yet here I am again. Done 2 chapters and will need to be 3 total, already at 10k words. It's just like Shakespeare said, "Brevity's for nerds lol." The threat is more tangible than After I Looked Up, The Stars Had Gone Away, though still very reigned in. The characters aren't being chased around some woods by a nutter with a crown on basically, though through reading it you could definitely take a stab at 'This is what is going on'. I've purposefully prevented myself from fleshing out the details in my own head and keeping it rough to avoid being too explicit and overt though. I'm chuffed with this one, but it really needs to be done right so it might be a few more weeks until I'm happy enough to release it.
Story 2: Local
Short Summary: Twilight loves living in Ponyville, but she can't help but sometimes miss the hustle and bustle of the big city. Still, even where life seems so much slower, there must be something exciting going on?
Projected Word Count: ca. 10-15k

From The Idiot Writing It: This is a less complete, but honestly I think it'll be done and out first. There's a couple of reasons for that, personal enthusiasm is one, but quality's the other. It's a much more subtle story than The Forest King, and simultaneously has both a more tangible 'threat' and horror stemming from fear of a concept. It's the least dark out of itself, Stars and Forest King, and the most realistic. The primary characters are Twilight and Rarity, and I'm doing something with the two of them which is totally new territory for me personally which I'm quite excited about. I think this one could end up the better of the two but we'll have to see. It might be a few weeks since I can already tell this is going to subject to constant tweaks and rewrites.
Other shit: So, as mentioned above I have a big problem with starting stories but then writing too much. This isn't a problem in terms of story quality, just in terms of how quickly I can get the bloody things published. So I'm determined to start writing more regular one-shots that I keep to under 3000 words max. Got a couple thought out already called 'A Plain Kettle' and 'Again' respectively. Hope to have some out soon.
So that's it, hope you all have a great Easter weekend!
Cheers
