WHOOPS I totally didn't make a blog post last week, and I totally meant to.
Things are starting to kick into high gear now, aren't they? I know chapter 4 was shorter than normal, and chapter 5 was a bit longer, so hopefully the length disparity wasn't too jarring for anyone. Honestly when I went back to re-read chapter 4 before publishing it, I was a little surprised at just how short it was.
Fun little fact about the train scene in chapter 4, it was originally meant to just be 2-3 sentences acting as a "jump" from Canterlot to the Crystal Empire. There was a similar little blurb in chapter 1 which was ultimately cut, and the one in chapter 4 kind of ran away from me and turned into a whole scene. It's kind of amazing how when you're writing, and you think something will just be a short paragraph description, and it winds up dominating half of the chapter.
Chapter 5 was a bit wordy, but now we're starting to dig into more clues! Did you know that the name Amethyst Hollow was initially a placeholder name?

I wasn't originally going to use it, but after staring at it for an evening, and sharing it with Denzy, I concluded the name was basically perfect for the type of scene I wanted to convey. I'm really glad I didn't change it!
Not only that, this week has been hectic for me. If you've been keeping up with the blog posts, or my rambling on Discord, I've been steadily drafting up the ending and final chapters to the story. During my usual writing routine on Sunday, I hit a passionate thread and cranked out some 2000 words in a few hours. Two days later, I had a sudden horrific realization that I completely forgot to include a huge part of the ending that I had been planning for about 6 months.

In a frenzied panic, I immediately wrote down some very rough notes to get my thoughts coherent. Then on Wednesday, I managed to draft up 1700 words to accompany what I already wrote earlier in the week. Now I just need to marry the two together seamlessly.
