Amigo Chapter 5: Week Battery · 7:47pm Mar 4th, 2019
Oh hey, I'm still sorta consistantly updating something! Is this real life, or is it just Fanta sea?
----------
So, by now ponies are getting a little familiar with Earl, and know to stay clear away as much as possible. In my town, there's this guy who drives around a raddy old truck that the frame is bent, and the body is rotten to the point you can see through the passenger door into the cab. His brakes? Sketch as yay, so you know to stay clear of it when you're on the road.
----------
We've all seen the strange store combinations in the show. I feel like it is a play on the duel resturaunts I see all the time, like the KFC/A&W, Long John Silvers/Wendy's, etc. Such strange combinations for two chain resturaunts to be glued together, but they seem to make it work. Earl doesn't point out this fact, because lets face it, he spends most of his time at Denny's, and probably Golden Corral.
----------
If you didn't catch it, Earl says "it doesn't take some phoney", since Twilight used the term "somepony". Earl figures she's saying "some phoney." I love word play like that.
----------
We've seen quills, pencils, crayons, markers, and paint. I'm not sure if we've seen a standard pen, but I know we've not seen a clicky pen. I think Twilight, and others, would be facinated with the concept of a mechanical pen, or even a mechanical pencil.
----------
Pixelated, or a Pixie, used to be a term for those who seemed out of touch with reality, or were very flamboyant and gay (as in happy, not the butt stuff), so it was usually reserved for those that others would seem too up beat and everywhere.
I like the idea that ponies would see it as a more natural expression, because they're all brightly colored equines. The reason Applejack's confused is Earl's tone at which he states this fact.
----------
I'm a firm believer in "Cash is King." Followed it my entire life.
I don't see it often in fics, but we know they have banks, so they must have checks. One would believe so, anyway. I believe...
----------
“Damn,” Earl swore, looking around, “it’s getting dark, and my battery is weak.”
I couldn't help myself. For the record, the chapter title was already set before Oppy was lost, and I'd had him make a remark about it being dark, and his battery dying on the amigo. I said to myself, "Do I change it and make the joke?" Good or bad, I did it, and now I must live with it.
RIP Oppy, you were a inspiration to all my jalopy vechies I own.
----------
"I ain't lost, just misplaced."
That's an expression my father has used since I could remember. According to him, he's only ever lost two things in his life: $300 that was in a McDonalds bag back in the 80's, which got thrown away, and a ring of keys that he knows are at the bottom of Pontiac Lake. Everything else is simply misplaced. It may take a few days, a few months, a few years, but it will eventually be found, so it is not lost. It is misplaced.
----------
Of course Big Mac is a big pony, so Earl would recognize him as possibly an adult. He's also got the deep voice to back it up.
----------
Thanks for reading, until next time!
I've got a library book around here somewhere that has been 'misplaced' to the tune of having to buy a new one if I can't remember where I plunked it. The history of bank drafts is fascinating, mostly consisting of people saying "How can I weasel free money out of these?" and banks saying "How do we keep people from weaseling free money out of these?"
