shhhhhhhhhhhh just breaking the site again don't mind me

very, very, very experimental fic continues its slow progress as the deadline for bicyclette's sci-fi contest draws near. these chapters are about on-par with what if in terms of length, but oh boy have they been an interesting experience to write.

hey hey btw i've got a (couple of) public minecraft server(s)!

yeah so anyway here is my webbed site lol. there's an MC Classic server for building whatever, and an MC Beta 1.7.3 server for playing survival. I might eventually also put up a modern vanilla server as well, though given how I'm hosting a bunch of servers already for friends and a couple of discord servers, idk if the little slab of a PC I'm using to host 'em all would be able to manage lol.

summer break is almost here :V

basically got one week left lol. got an experimental fic in the works that's a sort-of direct sequel picking off right where Splintershard ended. no prior reading is necessary.

MAN it's been a while since I've toyed with writing styles.

Writing on Pony-Me's original-fiction spinoff, My Own Reality, will resume after the end of Pony-Me. · 7:04am Jan 31st, 2019

Mild "holy crap the story I poured everything into is about to come to an end"-style rant coming up.

Yeah, for those (very few) people who wish to see Pony-Me but without ponies, I've been on a hiatus for around half a year now, focusing instead entirely on fleshing out the world and characters of Pony-Me to let myself have a stronger foundation for the story.

Well.

Looking back on what I currently have (four chapters), I kinda noticed that it's basically exactly what I stated above: Pony-Me, but without ponies. Like, it's practically just slightly tweaked copypasta off of the existing chapters of Pony-Me. I personally think that I should be above essentially ripping off my own work and taking an easy way out. If I want to get something done, I'm gonna do it well.

And that means a completely new story. Rather than borrowing heavily from Pony-Me, it'll instead be loosely based on the existing lore from the Universal Framework, with new characters, events, and locations likely added over time to supplement the story. As such, the Pony-Me/My Own Reality joint Universal Framework would likely soon split into two separate documents, with one focusing solely on Pony-Me and the other modified for My Own Reality.

Granted, my early thoughts are to keep the four central characters as-is simply because the story loses much of its personality without them. That means that Lisa, Samantha, Timothy, and Professor Argall likely will make a return in My Own Reality. The primary difference would mostly be in plot progression.

Given how Pony-Me initially began life as a writing experiment with an entirely new writing style, many earlier chapters had quite a few pacing issues that have been pointed out both by my friends and by reviewers. Now that both the story and the writing style have matured, I believe that it'd be much easier now to reasonably balance chapters and content, and not use so much filler material as I did early on in Pony-Me. Plot threads such as the short-lived crisis of a food shortage from way back in Pony-Me will be entirely cut out simply because they don't add much overall to the story, and were literally forgotten by myself until a review pointed out how it simply seemed to suddenly resolve itself silently in the background.

Other subplots, such as the moral dilemma of sentient AI and the split-personality issues of Lisa and Samantha would likely see more attention given to them in My Own Reality. Of course, the familial bond between Argall, Timothy, and Lisa would still be kept to add a more human touch to a story focusing on digital life and intelligence.

Pony-Me initially was meant to be an allegory on how the (semi-) permanent disconnection from one's digital life online could change someone forever. Instead, it grew into a written reflection of myself and the world around me. My Own Reality will probably continue to follow both paths at once, rather than one followed by the other like Pony-Me did. I hope to focus more on inter-character relationships and interactions, and the world around them, rather than careening down unrelenting streams of crisis-es.

Lastly, I want to make the story more natural. An early problem I remember running into while writing My Own Reality was that directly adapting the plot of Pony-Me to full-original fiction, even given the story's already very loose relation to MLP, was that issues constantly arose in creating a believable, natural background lore that would shape the characters in the same way MLP does in Pony-Me. Simply changing ponies into humans and giving them human names and traits doesn't cut it. Even being a semi-modular story, Pony-Me is still firmly rooted in MLP even down to its title and core conflict, and even moreso with the currently-published chapter giving more focus on Equestria than ever before.

My Own Reality is likely going to become my most ambitious project to date as it continues to develop, both in ideas and in writing. The act of simply replacing MLP with original lore alone is something that I've never even considered until recently. Original fiction hasn't been something I've seriously written since seventh grade, and lemme just say, that story will never see the light of day.

Just as with Pony-Me, I'll probably publish a regular stream of blogs detailing the goings and my current state on the story. As far as publishing goes, I currently have no idea where else to publish than potentially Wattpad.

Yeah. That place.

That is, unless you guys know of a good place to publish stories chapter-by-chapter like here on Fimfiction. Otherwise, I'll eventually bundle up the Wattpad chapters and see if I can get them seriously published in physical form.

Pony-Me seems like it might take about one and a third of a year to complete, based on its current state. Why not do it all over again, and experience everything a second time?

Yup. I might start looking for prereaders for that story too, given how I have two editors handling mainly grammar. The one prereader I had originally hasn't been on since October.

Happy to help with that if you want. :raritywink: Just let me know.
