It's the obligatory new year blog post.

And yes, I am posting this at around midnight on new year. I have a nasty cold, so I decided to disobey nurgle's one command and stay home.

    Just for kicks

I'm mucking around with Lulu for a work-related project (very boring stuff) and thought I would do a quality test with something fun.

    Oh shit, words

Or maybe that comma is in the wrong place. I haven't decided yet.

    The odd things

I've just been reading through old comments on my scraps story, after publishing yet another chunk from the ancient cutting room floor. It's remarkable how many of the commenters are still around - but also how many logged off for the last time, soon after making their last comment there.

    But in brighter news

While I'm not making any promises about any particular project here, I am actually writing again. I figure if I write enough of something, some pony words might drop out somewhere along the line as well. You never know. What I'm working on at the moment is essentially a re-write of a story I read a long time ago; an old pulp sci-fi tale, about a spaceship that manages to get lost in the

cat christmas often has to wait · 9:36pm Jan 8th, 2019

I had to re-arrange my living room for this.

pictured: cat paradise?

Owning cats is an exercise in futility, I've found. The little bastards were tearing up the furniture and everything else they could get their claws into, because the scratching things I'd got them up to now were insufficient - or so their vet had told me. So. I buy a tree's worth of scratchposts and perching platforms.

They're still scratching the furniture. They haven't even tried climbing it.

Futility, thy name is kitty entertainment.

In other, entirely unrelated news, the next chapter of No Room For Regret is coming along nicely. All drafted out. It is a little different than I had originally planned (in truth, the next chapter was originally meant to be the last chapter, but that doesn't work any more, so it's not the last chapter), but it is nevertheless a thing that is happening. Eventually. For obvious reasons I'm no longer promising precise deadlines, because whenever I do that I end up disappointing myself and you, the loyal readers. All three of you.

If you want a clue as to the direction of its content, just think back to the ice-house.

I'm off to finish a bottle of wine now. Tata!

Cats need something to dig the claws into... Carpet remnants, or wrap the tubes with rope. Then some catnip to get them started on the new "furniture"

Warning: unless that base is made out of depleted uranium, the whole thing stands a fair chance of tipping over.

That was what I was thinking. Also, I've a house full of designed cat furniture and scratching posts. Nothing convinced them to leave my couderoy recliner alone. I just gave up and redesignated it 'cat furniture'.

4993511 All furniture is cat furniture. All furniture with a large enough cushioned horizontal surface is likewise a dog bed. It doesn't matter if humans sleep on it, the dog will permit the sharing.

Cat paradise is where you don't want the cat to be. You know that! Maybe it would work better if you placed Things of Great Interest / Great Price on those platforms.

Hey, also is your tripod cat able to climb that Everest?
