How did you find my fic? · 4:56pm Nov 4th, 2012

Hark! Another blog solely for the entertainment and curiosity of the writer!

This time around, the question is exactly what you think:
How did you, beloved reader, stumble across the story known as "The Stranger and Her Friend"?

Perhaps you saw it on Equestria Daily, and decided to take a look? Or was it in the featured box? The "popular stories" sidebar? Did you find it on the front page, when it was first posted? (Fat chance.) Referred by a friend? Referred by a stranger? Referred by a stranger and his or her friend? Or was it some other convoluted, unforeseeable way?

[I'm interested!]

I won't kid myself into believing my blogs are popular, but pretty please consider commenting? This is something I'm dying to know about. I don't care if it's a one-word answer, so long as it's relevant. (And if it's not, I will extrapolate and theorize to the best of my ability. What the hay does "penguins" have do to with anything? I'll find out.) I also don't care if you think I already know... a reminder won't hurt. :raritywink:

On the flip side, if you don't read Stranger, but still follow me, why is that? How did you find me? Am I actually entertaining outside of my story? Or perhaps you're hoping I post a new one?

TL;DR: Who are you and what are you doing here? Even if you've never commented, especially if you've never commented, now is the time.

[Please?]

I found it while Tropes surfing. I was clicking through the links at the bottom that give you like fics, or whatever, and this one looked interesting.

Well, either that, or you made a blog post about it. Can't remember which.

Through feature bar and EqD, I love a good origin fic and this fit all the criteria, unfortunatly I had a lot of things piled high already that I was reading, so I came back to this the next time I saw it on feature bar and I had read most of those.

If I recall correctly, I saw it in the latest updates section.

EQD. Even if they leave out a good deal of interesting stories, the stories that do get through are generally good.

I can't remember whether it was EqD or the Featured Box, but definitely one of those two. If I had to guess, I'd say that I noticed it both places, but got interested when I saw the description on EqD.

Feature Box, on latest update. Seeing that it was an origin story for Celestia was what convinced me to read it and I am enjoying so far.

It is too long ago for me to remember. But it was either EqD or the feature box.

Feature box and EqD, or at least that was when I decided to actually read it.

I'm going to go meta- I found it because you posted this blog!

Why did I follow you? I loved "A Moose's Report" and think your writing is top-notch.

META!!

"See what I told you Chance! We really need to step up your exercise routine if you want people to stop calling you fat. Now get down and give me 50 pushups!"

I actually did find this when it was on the front page (I don't actually look at the featured box or the popular stories boxes, and I started reading it before EQD picked it up) As I have way too much free time I go through the descriptions of every fanfic posted, and TSaHF sounded interesting. (My main hobby is playing or GMing RPGs which I can only do once or twice a week, and I only write when my friends insist that I do it as I am terrible at it [my friends tend to argue with me about that])

It was on the front page, and the description caught my eye. It was nearly the exact same thing as my current RP :twilightblush:

473966
Wait wait wait. You found TSaHF via TvTropes? When? Where? How?

473989
The description hooked you? I always thought it was sort of bland, or perhaps a little generic. That's good to hear it's doing its job with at least some degree of success. :yay:

474066
I'm So Meta, Even This Acronym

Also, huh. I kind of forgot about "A Moose's Report", so much so that I failed to even mention it in the blog. So few people read it, I just didn't even consider it as a possibility.

Well, thanks for reading it! That was a fun one to write. I hope you'll like TSaHF just as much. (Though, be warned, A Moose's Report was lots of verbose, poetic prose condensed into not a whole lot of words. Stranger is a much better read, in my opinion, and it outshines Report in many, many instances, but they're fundamentally different styles. Stranger is really long, is a proper "story", and isn't so personal. That lovely, Report-esque poetry gets spread thin sometimes. Such is the way of world-building and epic adventure. But people seem to like it regardless. :twilightsheepish:)

474203
Drop and whaaa? Who's Chance? Why are people calling him fat? Why is he-

Ohhhhhhhhh. I get it.

Well wowzers, that makes you the one of, like, five people to have fav'd it in that time. Kudos on being one of my oldest readers!
(Also, I may have mixed feelings about my current description, but that first one was absolute crap. I don't know what anyone could have seen in it, but I'm glad it wasn't a complete turnoff.)

474295
Your RP must be AMAZING. :trollestia:

Thank you all for helping sate my curiosity! I really appreciate it! (But please feel free to comment, if you haven't already!)

Long reply comment is looooooong.

474550

Everything you said about how The Stranger is different sounds better. I love world-building; it's the downfall of my own writing, to be honest. I'm going to try to dig into The Stranger later today or tomorrow; I'll let you know what I think!

474559
I appreciate it, man!

How could I resist Pinkie's puppy face?

I read A Moose's Report when I saw it on the front page of fimfiction, and since I liked it, I took a look at the prologue and the first chapter of The Stranger and Her Friend. They were very promising, but I was occupied with several other long fics at that time and added the story to my Read Later list. When I came back to it, it was already about 70000 words long, whereas my Read Later list seemed to have grown exponentially, so I again postponed reading your fic in favour of some one-shots and shorter stories in order to clear the list. Needless to say, it has only become longer since then. This fandom produces damned many interesting stories. Because of all the new fics or old must-reads I stumble over, I unfortunately still haven't got around to reading more of The Stranger and Her Friend. At any rate, I can assure you that I consider you one of the best of the writers I've seen so far on fimfiction.

474550 I said I think I did. It was either The Stranger, or a fic with a similar name. I dunno. I prolly got it from one of your blog posts.

474879
Yeah, it was probably from a blog post. I've searched for my fic on TvTropes, but it seems nobody's made a page for it. I always thought it would be cool, though, which is why I sort of flipped out when you said you might have. :twilightblush: Hint hint, you crazy tropers.

474622
Thanks for reading A Moose's Report! I really can't believe that has appeared more than once on the list of reasons!

As for The Stranger and Her Friend, I completely understand. That's a huge turnoff for some, if not most people, oftentimes myself included. And it will only get longer, too. Perhaps when the Read Later list gets a little smaller, or once the story itself is actually finished, eh? The story and writing (oh lordie, the writing) get progressively better as you get farther in, so it's worth an eventual shot, in my completely and totally unbiased opinion.

Also,

At any rate, I can assure you that I consider you one of the best of the writers I've seen so far on fimfiction.

Thanks.

Couldn't remember but a quick check of my history suggests I found it from update 4 on EQD.

I saw this when it got featured for then first time. It looked interesting so I put it on my read later list. It took me forever to get around to it since it was a rather large fic and I wanted to get a solid start on it when I had time. Now it is one of my favorites. Keep it up :)

I think I saw it on one of the update posts on EqD.

I was surfing around FiM and I came across this in the Featured Box when I refreshed the page :D

Whoa, people do read your journal/blog.
Then where were all of Cotton's votes!? :raritycry:

Well, you told me about Stranger, then I read the first few chapters, then I demanded to become an editor, then I ruined altered the plot ever so slightly.
But I think you already know that :trollestia:

Equestria Daily. I thought it sounded good and picked it up soon-there-after. It somehow rose to the top of my "I'll get to it list"

475718
I know, right?! I opened fimfic a few hours after posting this, and my literal, out-loud words were: "Holy freakin' crap."

And I've been saying that every comment since.

I found this gem in the rough via EQD (I like to surf the update list to see if there is anything worth my interest) and saw TSaHF. I love Celestia's character in Canon. We share a lot of traits and I enjoy every little bit of her we can get. When I saw a Celestia background fic I was immediately interested in it. Needless to say I was hooked by the first chapter and have diligently read every update that has come to pass.

I am enjoying your writing a lot in your story and while I have read a few "Celestia History" fics, this and Price of Grace are my two favorites. Oh and as I have said before your fic is criminally under appreciated.

Honestly I can't remember, may have found it through EQD.
I've been to busy with school to read the most recent chapters, anyway.:applejackunsure:

Saw it on the "Hot" fanfics list by around the time chapter 3 was posted.

476065
Oh, how I wish The Price of Grace was continued (with the heavily hinted at sequel, that is). Oh well, it still remains one of my favorites, too. You, sir, have good taste. :raritywink:

476218
Actually, that reminds me, I was also curious as to what chapter everyone is currently on. I 'spose I should wait a little bit before posting yet another begging-for-feedback blog posing that question.

In any case, no worries, man. Long fic is loooong.

476655
Hummm. I seem to recall the story was in the "hot" sidebar (or "popular stories", or whatevs) when it was first starting, but I've never noticed it there since. That might just be because I almost never check it, though.

Have you (or anyone else) noticed it there in the recent past? Do old stories even get listed there, or is it all new stuff?

I found it on the Top rated list.

476792
As far as I am aware most stories will only get featured on the "Hot" list once in it's entirety, if you can it happens very rarely
Though it is very possible for you to go into the feature box more than once.

Some guy was like "dude, read this story and ill give you a cookie." Still waiting on my cookie though.

476966
Maybe he'll give it to you when it's finished. Or not. Who knows? :trollestia:

EqD. Was surfing through the stories and whatnot. Was originally the cover photo that drew me in, the description was enough on top of that to make me have to read it. I don't regret it, of course.

A deviant art comic I like called At the Moment

488758
Hey! I like that comic, too! :yay:

Man, now I feel bad for not updating it in ages :twilightoops:
