Legend has it that "On the longest day of the thousandth the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about night time eternal."
This is the prophecy of Nightmare's Moon return. Little did they know, this 'prophecy' was a code used during the 1st Equestrian-Gryphon War. The code was invented by General Rommel, originally intended to misdirect the Gryphon army about the invasion of the Gryphon isles. Due to its' success in causing confusion among Gryphon units, it was later used extensively as a way to inform units about upcoming operations by the Equestrian Army. It was known as the Mouse code, since the invasion of the Gryphon isles was led by Panser 8 Maus tanks of the Equestrian Army. The code was usually said to units a day before the operation begins.
What the code means:
Part 1: "On the longest day of the thousandth year"
It represent the time the operation took place. The above statement means that the operation will take place at night, 10:00 pm.
"Longest day" -- Operation takes place at night
"Longest night" --Operation takes places in the Morning
" 'number in hundred or thousands' year" exact time the operation is taking place.
Example: "Nine hundredth year" represents Operation starts at 9 O'clock.
Part 2: "the stars will aid in her escape"
This means that objective area is bombarded several hours before the time given in the code. If there is no bombardment prior to the operation, "the stars will hide in her flight" is used.
Part 3: "She will bring about night time eternal"
It is to confirm that the operation is taking place at night. If the operation takes place during the day, "She will bring about daytime eternal."
If the operation takes place in the day with no pre-bombardment:"On the longest night of the thousandth year, the stars will hide in her flight, and she will bring about daytime eternal."
If the operation takes place in the night with pre-bombardment : "On the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about night time eternal."
It was used widely by the Equestrian military until the demilitarize act is signed. The code would never be used in the military again. The only remnant of this code is in the Prophecy of Nightmare Moon's return. Is the code a coincidence? Of course it is. It was said that Queen Ditsy was the one who modify the code in the planning stages to its current form. Queen Ditsy claims that the code is easy to understand and remember but no one really knows what or how she got the foresight to use the code as a prophecy.
