Help! My Heart is Full of Pony! - Scorpan · 3:04am Nov 1st, 2018
Did anypony else notice that, in the latest holiday special, Discord uses the expression, "For Scorpan's Sake."
Ever since "Sisterhooves Social," when Rarity said, "With Celestia as my witness," it's generally been a running gag that, in Equestria, common earth sayings referencing "God" can swap out the word with "Celestia."
"Oh my Celestia!"
"Sweet Celestia!"
Discord is a contemporary to the ruling sisters - older even - (and a former adversary) so it makes sense that he wouldn't use their names in this way. However, it is interesting that he would use "Scorpan."
Apart from the obvious questions regarding whether or not this is a hint at a direction that the show may be going in - an attempt to fill in the one major mythology gap that the show has yet to explore, it also raises interesting questions about the ancients themselves.
Was Scorpan held in legendary regard before the days of the pillars (or after)? Has Discord a personal reason to use his name? A sort of secret reverance, (or at least respect), since Scorpan was Equestria's first (known) reformed villain? (And the first brony.)
Did Discord know the guy personally? He knew Scorpan's brother, Tirek after all.
Was Discord simply trolling when he said, "For Scorpan's Sake"?
There's a lot to wonder regardng what this may or may not reveal about Discord's character. There are even more pressing questions about Scorpan himself - the first demon in recorded history ever to have said, "You know what? I like love and friendship and pretty things. Forget Evil. Evil is lame."
The character's ancient G1 history lends even more mystique to the question. Sometimes the right questions are more important than answers. Sometimes contemplating a mystery is far deeper.
Who is Scorpan really? As an individual? As a page in Equestria's history? Is rejecting our own inner darkness a matter of saying, "Buck this," and giving up the comfort and familiarity of the life we'd known, and seeking greener pastures and nobler paths?
Perhaps goodness, and love, and strength all starts with a fondness for pastels, and the courage not to care what your peers have to say about it.

"Has Discord a personal reason to use his name?"
Well, it does occur to me that, even if there wasn't one in the distant past, he may have gained one from his temporary betrayal and the results of that.
"Was Discord simply trolling when he said, "For Scorpan's Sake"?"
Though, yes, given it's Discord, that's also a possibility. :)
(Why, saying something randomly and then having a bunch of people think it was a cryptic hint and try to dig into it seems like it'd just add to his enjoyment.)
I'm leaning towards "the one non-Fluttershy person he truly respects." Don't know if they knew each other personally, but between Tirek's betrayal and Discord's own history, he definitely sees Scorpan as a sort of role model. And possibly a cautionary tale of taking it too far. This is Discord we're talking about.
