IN WHICH I SPREAD THE WORD
I've led off these blogs with unusual videos before. This one takes the cake. Do you like Victorian England? Do you like maids?
The company who put this series out on DVD 10yrs ago is trying to get a Bluray Kickstarted. Please let any otaku friends know.
I wasn't planning on writing another blog until I hit four hundred followers, but Emma is one of my favourite manga and anime of all time, so I had to share news about the Kickstarter as soon as I found out about it. As of my writing this, they're about 78.5% to their goal of dubbing the first 12 episodes after seven days. Dubbing the last 12 will take a bit less than 2/3 more again beyond the cost of the first season.
On the writing front, after speaking with some friends on Sunday, I attempted to write a(n original) futuristic horror story, but I just couldn't do it. Every idea I could think of is derivative of something I've already read or seen. Though, I suppose I could take a page out of Posh's (and SFD's) book and adapt "Psycho-Janeway". But I've just been too fuckin' lazy from thinking and then sleeping.
Because of that little side project, I'm afraid I've made no headway on "Annie". This gives me a sad, because I want to get this albatross of a story off my neck. It's all on the site -- I just need to clean it up. But that's boring tedious work.
Eh, not like I have anything better to do.
I haven't been to the gym since last week, due in part to bad weather and my disinclination to drive in it in the middle of the night. But I'm going to go tonight as soon as I finish this post.
After that (or before that), I'm off to Walmart to pick up a cheapass pair of earbuds because my current pair decided to short out on me and I'd like to have something before the Sennheiser HD-599's I ordered come in next week. They're expensive but the reviews say they're worth it, plus they were on sale: $185 instead of $250.
Incidentally, my state has one of the highest sales tax rates in the nation (yes, I'm 95% sure it's higher than California's). I shop online to avoid our highway robbery sales tax. If Amazon is going to charge sales tax regardless, then there's not much point unless their discounts are steep.
Are any of y'all on here who write… ever ashamed to admit you write fanfiction? I am. It's a pretty looked-down-upon form of "art", isn't it. Most professional authors with the exception of Rowling turn their nose up at it. I can't admit to my family that I write this stuff -- I just sort of dance around it.
But one thing I enjoy about this medium as opposed to professional work is that I don't have to give a damn about copyrights and trademarks. In this Wild West of Writing where most traditional rules don't apply, I can make as many references as I want to. If I want to write a story where nearly all of the dialogue is song lyrics, I can (and have!). If I want to shout out television shows or music or public figures, I can with little to no fear of reprisal. It's a nice bit of freedom that the traditional system (understandably) lacks.
By the way, have all y'all read this story yet? I hate plugging my own work like this, but it's kind of important to the Burritoverse and has a low reader count plus an unacceptably high percentage of downvotes -- I'm pretty sure it's because I'd attracted some downvote fairies around this time due to my anti-Trump rants, which kept the story from getting heat. If those who haven't read it would do so, I'd appreciate it.
And that's all for tonight I guess.
Peace out!
You made me Google sales taxes, and I learned that New York doesn't even break the top 5. Meanwhile, counties all in New York ARE the top five in "highest over all costs of living." Weird.
As for fanfics, I don't plan on being a published author, so I just leave out the part about talking horses. Unless I'm looking for shock value. Just blatantly telling people "I read horse smut" gets the best reactions.
The best way to create something new is to make it a derivative of multiple ideas with some of your own ideas thrown in, gained from personal experience. The Rarity nightmare was certainly pretty scary too. :)
I drove recently for my first time btw. I took to it rather naturally but it was definitely a new experience. I'm also worried a little about going any faster than a certain speed.
I'm a LITTLE ashamed to write fanfiction, but not always. Because there's fanfiction in history, and some people can enjoy fanfiction, just like some people can enjoy classic books.
I hate having a high ratio of downvotes too. :(
I'm slowly becoming more open about the whole fanfiction thing. I've dropped it here and there into a couple conversations. Of course, I've saved myself the "out" of being able to say I'm not into the smut side of things... because I'm not... which is a useful way to disarm the conversation if it's getting out of hand. It's been interesting, though, and I will probably continue working it in here and there.
