I recommend reading Rose Quill's retrospective on this. For those unaware, Comparing Notes is a 65k+ story I made alongside Rose Quill as co-author. It started around this time one year ago. June 2017. I was approached by a fellow and quite talented author with the idea of a collaboration story. We would work in tandem to create a story together. It was something I had wanted to do for a while but had not gotten around to, so I was super interested and took the opportunity. Ideas bounced around and then we landed on it. Our spearate SunLight universes would interact.
At first it was meant to be only a story that could be ignored if push came to shove but collabs have a way of developing in unexpected ways. Or perhaps it was only because we each had somewhat different approaches that, when combined, could lead to unforseen developments. As the story evovled, so did our characters and then was the bonding of my Sunlight with her Midnight Sky. At that point the story was cemented as unavoidable canon.
There was an entire half-year or so of PM-crazy conversations. As fun as the story-making was, we also wound up taking endlessly about all manner of things. In typical FiM fashion, a simple (okay, maybe not so simple) collaboration turned into the making of a powerful friendship. I suppose one couldn't expect much less to happen in a fandom based on such a show or a subset of said fandom that writes and writes and writes about such friendship. Or of two specific people who happen to share so many of the same tastes and interests.
I could go on about learning so much more about our worlds, writing, directing, collaborating, and so on but...I don't want to.

Joking aside, it's been an amazing journey that unfolded over a year. I grew through it and loved the process. Though I do wish that my constant IRL distractions had been less in the first half of 2018. It looks like I might get some more time again in the latter half of this year after some dust settles this summer IRL, which is why I plan on coming out with two new stories within a few months. Anyways, Comparing Notes was a riot of a time and I don't expect it will be the last of either my universe or Rose Quill's. The kids have story left to tell and so do their authors.
Also, I haven't yet given Rose any of my cookies.
