Friendship is Card Games: Trixie and the Razzle-Dazzle Ruse

We return to the pony novels this week, and hopefully a better showing from the titular mare. Last time we saw Trixie in one of these, G. M. Berrow was channeling the fandom circa 2011 and making her and Gilda the designated antagonists of the piece. Let’s see what she’s up to this time.

Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

    Swan Song

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Back in 1999, Magic: the Gathering tried to appeal to the Chinese market with an introductory set based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

I promise I'm going somewhere with this.

The problem with Portal Three Kingdoms was that it was... well, a Portal set. That meant that the rules were so simplified that they paradoxically led to a greater quantity of less intuitive text on each card, along with a second barrier to entry as people who learned how to play via Portal then had to learn all the rules that had been left out of the version of the game they knew. (As an additional wrinkle, the set had an extremely limited release and rebranded flying as horsemanship... except creatures with flying can't block creatures with horsemanship. Creatures with horsemanship are virtually unblockable, and thus the good ones are in demand grossly disproportionate to their supply. There's a reason they put Sun Quan in From the Vault: Legends.)

Suffice to say, they're trying it again, this time using the modern introductory technology of planeswalker decks (starter decks featuring an planeswalker card that won't show up anywhere else) built using Chinese fantasy tropes to maximize resonance with the target audience.

Why do I bring this up? Purely for self-gratification. Because guess what? Magic has its first official yak. And I was right about the creature type.

I never promised I was going somewhere constructive with it. :derpytongue2:

Oh my God, I love it :rainbowlaugh:

The cards here are mostly underwhelming, but I have to say that the art to Ancestor Dragon is just badass.

Yes! :rainbowlaugh:

Also, yay for more 3 Kingdoms stuff!

Don't know if you read the "making of" article, but Wizards deliberately lowered the power of those decks because they're making the cards Standard legal in China only. They don't want to deform the format on a geographic basis, so we get two-mana Unsummon and creature-only Shock.

Where are the unicorn and pegasus yaks??? :trollestia:

That's just Shenron from Dragon Ball.

One of these days I will pull together my mono-blue Horsemanship Commander deck. All blue cards that have it naturally with Sun Quan as the commander, and every creature that is naturally unblockable, or variant there of (hi skulk!) and every spell or ability that grants some form of unblockablilty. It won't be the best deck in the world, and it likely won't be fun to play against but I'm already playing mono-blue so it's expected that I won't be fun to play against... .

I need to update my Reaper King Good Stuff deck. Every Scarecrow and just about every "Everyone benefits" cards. Because there is a harvest due and everyone reaps the rewards until they are, themselves, reaped as all must be in the end.

That's what tailung look like, the design is way older than dragonball.
