Moth Plays Dark Cloud 2: Intermission II: Loose Ends · 4:37pm Jun 4th, 2018

In which we take a break to collect some Monster Badges, finish up the Sindain Georama, and build homes for everyone left on the train.

Sometimes, the arbitrary limitations on how many of certain things you can put in Georamas are frustrating and stupid. A limit on the number of MAILBOXES you can place?! You can only place FOUR Iron Houses in Veniccio? It's ridiculous!

So anyway, I now have 9 of the 10 Monster Transformation Badges. The last Badge, Cards, is only obtainable in the last two dungeons, and prohibitively expensive--you need to sacrifice three Diamonds to get it, and Diamonds are hard to obtain, expensive once you can outright BUY them, and too valuable for their intended use to just waste them on something you'll never use.

There are two Badges that are passive, rather than active: the Sun and Moon Badges. These are the final two photography level rewards, and they have amplification effects on the duration and power of Monica's transformations.

What lies ahead of Max and Monica in Griffon's domain?

Find out in the next episode!

You'll notice I just said the last two dungeons. But aren't we about to enter the final chapter of the game?

Well, yes...and no.

Like any good RPG, Dark Cloud 2 has post-game content. The main story of the game ends in Chapter 7, which is where we are now, but the adventure continues in Chapter 8, an entirely optional bonus chapter with the toughest monsters in the entire game and some surprising boss battles.

I've only made it all the way to the end of the bonus dungeon once.

I never did finish The Mines so you've gotten further than I ever have.

The after game just didn't pull me in like the main game did so I never finished it. Maybe one day...

It doesn't help that Chapter 8 is just endless dungeon crawling with a shaky excuse plot and no Georama.

So after you finish off Dark Cloud 2, will you move on to any of the other Level 5 games?

That is basically the reason I never finished it. The fighting in the game is tight and fun but you need something to break it up with or it just gets so tedious.

Something more than Spheda and fishing that is.

Yes, but not immediately. They'll be interspersed between other games.
