My Thoughts on The Break Up Break Down (s8e10) · 4:10pm May 19th, 2018
Ahhh.... This was so good! Like, really really really good! Check below for my thoughts and minor spoilers!
Okay, so this episode was fantastic for a number of reasons. Let's break 'em down, shall we?
The basic idea is a tried but true one about a pony getting confused about their relationship status and going about it all the wrong ways. Been there, done that, sure. But! It did it very well and honestly very true to life. Spike, Discord and Big Mac all rely on what I call 'teenage wisdom' to try and solve their problem.
And it blows up.
But let me tell you what. When I was a teenager and going through various relationships, I did the same thing. There was a problem? 16 y/o Famous did everything he could to avoid it and hide from it. Why? Because facing the ugly truth is not easy to do. The characters in this episode follow that same pattern and it brought a level of realism to the table.
The strongest part of this episode, however, was the character interactions. Like, Spike was on point. Big Mac was adorable. Discord was troublesome but obviously compensating for being alone. They meshed so well together! I loved it.

Yeah, the miscommunication trope is definitely a thing that comes up and causes a lot of hurt, so it's nice to see how it was handled here. Also, MacBelle staying strong, LyraBon confirmed, and the CMC looking for love themselves? Made of adorable.
On a more technical side, hats off to the writer. Three plotlines tied together in 22 minutes. OP, pls nerf.

Well, puns aren’t exactly the best way to becoming a comedian.... unless your a One Liner kind of comedian, then they COULD work. Try watching some comedians that have gone on America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent. Those guys KILL it.
You know
they could just be two lonely best friends on Hearts and Hooves day and are trying to comfort each other for not having stallions like how the end of the episode implied with the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

I'm surprise and glad this turned out to be a "Pro-Bro" episode. Great fun all around.
