    Creating Compelling Characters

Creating a ‘good’ character is an evergreen topic in many groups on this site, so I thought it might be worth a shot to dedicate another miniguide to it. Here I’ll focus primarily on some aspects of a character’s role in a story and the ways in which these aspects affect character creation. The guide might be also a bit messier than usual as putting together these various tidbits of advice would

Handling Points of View with Grace

I’m pretty sure that all of you have read more than one story in your life, and I’d bet that most of you noticed that stories can be told from a variety of perspectives. If you prefer a somewhat fancier term, such a perspective can be also called a point of view (POV for short). Types of POVs, their usage, and common pitfalls are what’s this miniguide going to be about. Just like in case of the

Story Titles, Cover Art, and Descriptions 101

Imagine this: You wrote a story that you deem great. You may have even shown it to a few folks for beta-reading and might have it edited, so the fact the story ain’t bad is most likely not just your subjective perception. Then you publish the story. Nothing happens. No comments, a modicum of votes, and a few views. Maybe it’s just bad luck. Or maybe the story’s boring and fails to maintain the

Ever out of order (Sort of on hiatus) · 9:43am Apr 14th, 2018

Greetings everybody, everypony, everyling and every-sea-cucumber!
I'd love to announce that a new chapter is about to be posted, but sadly, that's not the case.

In the Autor's Note below the latest chapter of The Forest Pony, I promised this:

The next chapter should be up by the middle of March! (to be specified)

Given it's the middle of April, I utterly failed in that regard and with my current schedule, you'll probably get chapter 8 sometime in May :ajsleepy: I want to be honest with you, so here is what happened:

A few weeks ago, my knees started swelling, my other joints were sore all over and I had a fever (not the first time it happened, though) to the point where I couldn't really walk or type, so I had to spent a few days in hospital, where they took care of the water in my joints and changed my medication. It was good for a few days until it all started again, only this time with little bits of twitching in my face and some of my thoughts "shattering" in the middle before I could even finish thinking about them. This led to some really awkward situations... just imagine you want to ask somebody a question and in the middle of doing so, you are drawing a blank :derpyderp2:

Well, anyway, it was about the same time that I received a letter from the hospital, learning that they diagnosed me with Lyme disease, which went untreated for at least half a year. So--Bang!--some terrible mix of antibiotics for a month.

On top of all that, I had a competition/conference (Hard to explain, the content is really not that important.) in the second half of March, which required my full attention and most of my free time. I managed to advance to the next round, which is coming up next week and I really want to succeed there. So, even more intense studying without any distractions :twistnerd:

You might see me appearing here from time to time and I might be up for a short chat or comment, but anything longer like writing, reading or editing is out of the question right now. Still, if you need something, shoot me a PM and we will figure it out, but know that at best till May, things will be a little messy around here.

Signing off,
Ever, hopefully already Borrelia burgdorferi-free

PS: To balance out the gloomy message above, have an adorable Nightmare Moon making snowballs. Made for last year's Christmas by yours truly.
