Yesterday I was at my local comic book shop ready to pick up the latest issue when I ran into a fellow Brony. For a while we chatted about the comics, laughing about some of the poor choices they made, and generally having a good time.
Then it happened. I brought up that issue 50 is easily the worst for one reason: Starlight upstaged everypony with zero effort! I have not made it a secret in any way that I dislike this... character and issue 50 is a shining beacon of why. In this issue she is easily able to not only protect herself from the combined power of Accord mixed with the Elements of Harmony, is the only one giving Princess Celestia a pep talk, and turns Accord back into Discord. This is why I hate her so much, she undermines everything the other characters have done with little to no effort just to make her seem better. Instead of having both the CMC (who had invited Discord to join their group) and Fluttershy talking to him it was all Starlight. Instead of all of the other mares who have known Celestia for a longer time it's just Starlight. The rest did nothing. This is why I can't get behind her in any media she's in because she does the same thing. Even in Equestria Girls, Juniper had to have her backstory altered so Starlight could give the friendship so each and Starlight mastered being a human so quickly that she could do backdrops in a body she's had for less than a day!
But before I could say any of this i was told that my retarded mother deserves to be raped for giving birth to me. Just wow. Thankfully the owner of the store heard that and threw the asshole out and made sure I was ok. Even gave me a free coke. I've known her for four years now and even though she doesn't watch the show or read the comics, she has a better understanding of friendship.
I'd say some might be crazy. I'm a fan of her too somewhat but even I know she's done stupid stuff that makes me wonder how's she isn't getting punished for it. Must be because the Magic of Friendship is so forgiving for ponies like her who are misguided in someway. I've yet to even read the Accord arc but that does sound strange, at the very least give a good reason how she manages it when the others can't.
As for that dirtbag in the store, what a jerk, I'd have punched him in the face for that remark, I mean she's just a freaking cartoon character, no need to go bananas over her just cause someone doesn't like her.
Heck I was hoping this whole time before the leak happened that she was an orphan cause at least then her reasons for the Our Town and time travel would've made sense in at least she has an excuse for doing so that isn't out of simple pettiness. Yet I'm not to bothered by the fact she does still have a father...though maybe he's why she came out that way, bad parenting and not getting her to make new friends at that age when she needed them the most..
Yeah the Accord arc was bit of a "Starlight saves everything" in the end, while others somewhat tried and failed for the effort.

I think I'm more upset at how much they changed her. I miss the manipulative charismatic character that she was. She was powerful but Twilight was still stronger. Then in the finale they just made her so powerful it just blows my mind how people can agree with this. Look I said this plenty of time, that Twilight went to the best school of gifted unicorns there is. She trained under Princess Celestia. And now she is getting schooled buy a unicorn who is more powerful than her can whip up smells like they're nothing and can even come find cells without practice all without having no formal education. At least that we know of. I know a lot of people when I bring this up will point out several people who have done amazing things without a formal education. I have to put my foot down those people work their asses to get to where they are. Starlight did it through clock convenience and all off screen. The source of her power is just getting angry. I like Twilight because she's smart and we've seen her work hard and I don't want to trade that up for Jesus-kun storytelling.
The Accord Ark starts off pretty strong in my opinion actually giving you a sense of dread. They do some amazing callbacks and references and it feels like it's going to be a showdown between Celestia and Accord. But the final issue is where I see red. Because this was written before the Equestria Girls episodes and one scene makes it look like Starlight was the one who convinced Sunset to change her way. That Starlight is the true master of friendship all the other characters as if they're more than he can be something that gets the job. If you like Star like that's fine but I just don't see what's so great about her and I just think she's she's hurting the show by suggesting one is better than the group

I must agree there, she isn't better than the others, she would be equal to them in the actual definition and she could use some work to be a better character overall. At least she's learning somewhat on what not to do with her magic. XD I do wonder though about how she was able to even rework Starswirl's spell, think while she was making Our Town or during her escape she found an unaccounted for magic artifact that could've increased her intelligence or something? That recent Celestia minisode on Youtube did mention there are over 100+ magic artifacts out there that are dangerous, especially jewelry.

That would be interesting, but I doubt it. If it were an artifact we would have seen it. Plus having that kind of power boots should come with some sort of price, similar to what the Alicorn Amulet did to Trixie. Given how long it's been it's probably not that.
Also it wouldn't explain in Starlight sudden boom in magical proficiency. Remember it took her years to create a single spell and that's something I would believe. Finishing starswirl the bearded spell in a single season is a stretch but I'm willing to give some leeway. But also getting a power boost that makes you stronger than an Alicorn Princess able to combine spells with no practice able to create spells on a whim and so on that's when she really became overpowered. And it's clear that the writers want to keep her like this and not give any sort of excuse. My actual fear is that the show will end with Starlite becoming the new princess of friendship gaining Twilight alicorn Wings because it was always Twilight's Destiny to prepare the road for the true princess of friendship. And given how the last two seasons I've gone I hope you can see why I would think that
Personally I think Starlight Glimmer was created to shut up the people complaining about Twilight becoming an alicorn. She is simply getting storylines that where ment for Twilight just with a name change. Heck even their names are similar.
It would be a great story if someone could reveal that everything after the Cutie Re-Mark is her punishment. She is having mind magic done on her to see if she is ready to be allowed out in public.

I might have believed that but the thing is I don't want to trade Twilight Sparkle for a clone. It just seems like a stupid way of doing it. People are complaining about Twilight so let's just give them another Twilight? Why not just fix the problems instead of having the original character that people fell in love with stuck in her castle day after day doing nothing while Starlight does everything I fail to see the logic in that

It was simply easier for them to make a clone of Twilight then to create an original character with complexity this late in the game. If she had been a background reoccurring character like the CMC all season 6 I think she would be better received by parts of the fandom. It makes me scared how the rumored reformation of Chrysalis is going to be handled.

That is the million dollar question. I hope that this season they develop all of the new characters they are introducing. They all look to be interesting and hopefully they all have unique personalities.

I think they're the same. Take the season finally, what did the mane six do? Collect a few items that any one could do. Starlight was able to read the notebook, was the only one who thought about the pony of shadows, was the only one to ask about his origins, only one to suggest a more peaceful way...

I think that was somewhat forgivable though, as it was interesting to watch Twilight suffer from a severe case of hero worship.
As to the rest of it, I think Starlight can be good ifn written right, which is what I'm hoping to do with a story I'm working on, a Princess Starlight story (don't worry, it'll all make sense, and no, she hasn't single-handedly saved Equestria over and over).

It would have been if that had been the focus like with Rainbow Dash meeting Darling Do. Look, we had a chance to actually see how the mane six interact with their heroes but the focus was more on Starlight doing everyponies job.

Sorry but I was tired when I wrote my last comment to you. I am sorry for not reading it properly. Still I called bowl that she can alter the spell gain all that power figure out how to channel the map to work with the spell all during the course of a single season as she stalking Twilight. Basically it feels like the writers did all this just so Twilight could be defeated with no other choice than to appeal to Starlight and giving her stuff so she won't be evil. In the process showing that Twilight is not the true magical prodigy, only slightly above average

Eh, no worries. And while I kinda agree that the staff went a leg up to characterise Starlight in favour of others, I do honestly believe she is much more talented then Twilight ever was, in personal ability that is. Remember, Twi would have flunked her entrance exam if it wasn't for a certain Rainboom, and she could do jack shit against Discord without her friends. Her "magic" literally comes from her friendships (as per the show's title and second episode).
As for why only Starlight figured the thing about the cutie map... Pure guesswork, but I don't think she knew what would happen, at all. She's shown to be very willing to try stuff out for the heck of it (combine spells, mindcontrol for chores, etc...) that others think against (hey, a negative trait), so thinking along the lines of "hey, what if the heart of a structure that randomly appeared out of nowhere, made of crystals and specifically for the bearer of magic, could work as an amplifier for magic spells". Again, pure fanwank on my part, but it seems reasonable with my idea of her character. Heck, maybe she never even altered anything, just casting the spell near the map caused all the mess (as again, that cutie map has so many questions on it own it might as well be a deity for all I care)

MMmm, I disagree, what we have is Starlight picking up the slack when Twilight fangirls, the only real flaw is why does the Mane 6 blindly follow her? Twilight is such a big fan, so sure that Star Swirl can do no wrong that she'd likely do anything he asks short of attacking Celestia... Come to think of it, I wonder what she'd do given that order by him... At least there Starlight's role makes sense, basically the voice of reason, so it's not too bad.
Issue 50 though... Oy vey, where to start? How about that it is a pointless issue as it violates canon (last I heard comics are canon until they're not). While the issue has it's moments, there's not many. I agree, Starlight as the savior of Equestria in that episode is bad, the story seems like a bad fanboy's wish fulfillment. Much as I like Starlight, I can't say I'm impressed by that story.
