C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Still waiting on Midnight Rising prereads...

Which are particularly important this time, because the first preread I got back was negative. As it came from AJ_Aficionado, whose opinions I particularly value mostly because he’s more interested in the story than the sex, I tend to give what he said about it credence but still want to hear from everyone else before I start making changes to the new chapter.

Final chapter of TLaTU releases this weekend... · 2:39pm Mar 20th, 2018

Or such is the plan. After struggling with it for several weeks around other writing projects, it now stands at just short of 6000 words after I finally got some momentum on it and figured out what I'm going to do with it.

It may be a slight letdown to some of you, though. After a few false starts on it, I've decided the scene with Pinkamena is going to be skipped in the final chapter, which will instead open with everyone waking up the next day and dealing with the aftermath... on both sides of the mirror. I'm doing this for two reasons:

  1. First, Pinkamena is a VERY difficult character to write for! :pinkiecrazy: And though I'm sure I can (and will!) pull it off eventually, any scene I made with her would dominate the final chapter and overshadow the ending, where I want to wrap various things up and set the stage for the eventual sequel.
  2. Second, I think it appropriate to end this story with an unknown event (I think they're called 'noodle incidents'?) much as I did for Turnabout Storm with Pinkie's pre-Equestrian 500 party, only revealing what actually happened later.
  3. To that end, I will be taking a reader suggestion to offer it and perhaps one or two other side stories as an omake... for reaching a certain Patreon donation goal. Yes, I'm going to see if I can start doing some Patreon stuff. Details on that will follow.

Note that this is NOT to say there will not be one final round of surprising naughtiness for our heroes and major characters! I'll keep that secret for now, though. Aside from an M-rated coda, there will be a return appearance by Mia, some explanations and revelations from her about why she arranged all this (I knew her reasons from the start, and she'll detail them here--trust me; they make perfect sense in context of the characters), decisions and promises made, and above all else, a happy ending all-around as an immensely sated and contented Celestia ends her vacation and Phoenix and Maya's other Equestrian friends return to their world with a surprising guest in tow!

I don't have a suitable teaser ready yet, but one will be released by Thursday, and I'll aim to publish the final chapter either Saturday or Sunday morning. I will mark the story completed at that point, but there will be an epilogue attached later that will point to the sequel, when it's ready. I'll have a lot more to say about this story later, but I would like to thank all of you who have followed this as long as you have. It's been one hell of a ride, folks, and I think a rather... unique work on many levels!

Additional blog and teaser will follow on Thursday. Be looking for it then!

Considering that I have 2 exams today and a rough few couple days, some TLATU on the weekend is going to be great for unwinding.
