Sunset Shimmer Theory! Why she never met her counter part. · 11:21am Feb 26th, 2018
OK, so I had a thought. Could Sunset really be from the human world?
So for a bit of background;
-It is likely that they were all in their junior year in the first movie, making them 16.
-The fist movie was in 2013 so, this is going to be considered the origin year.
-if they were all 16 in 2013, that would mean they were born in 1998
-The portal opens every 2.5 years
-assume the formal is in october
Ok, so I did some math cause I was bored. In 2013 the portal opens to Equestria so, lets back track years.

As you can see, the portal would have been opened in fall of the year they were all born. It's possible that her parents sent her through the portal the year she was born and since we don't actually know her birthday, it is plausible that she was born in the human world to begin with. It's possible that her parents never went with her or they did and never told her about their origins.
If her parents only sent her, she could have been put up for adoption and her adoptive parents never told her. It would also be possible that Celestia was the one who found her and put her up for adoption herself and knew, upon taking her as her student, where she was from. It could be the reason why Celestia had wanted to show Sunset the mirror to begin with.
Have you noticed that we've never scene another Sunset Shimmer in the human world and Sunset never mentions her or even leads on that she knows she has one? Wouldn't she want to know where she was so she doesn't accidentally run into her? Yes it's possible that she just doesn't live in Canterlot but what are the odds? Really? We've scene the counterpart of almost every character in the main series, what are the odds that the other Sunset isn't there too. One could argue that in the Human world Sunset didn't have Celestia but then how do you explain human Twilight? And yes, I'm aware she could just be dead.
Now if it's true, and Sunset was from the human world, what about her PONY counterpart? Well, I've thought of that. In 'A Forgotten Friendship' it is revealed that Clover the Clever had traveled through the mirror to hide the memory stone which means, Equestrian's could travel to the human world as well. Also, the Siren's were banished and showed up there too. Think, some Equestrian's have ended up in the Human world in the past, Sunset definitely wasn't the first. What if one was a reformed villain or just somepony who wandered in and decided not to leave? What if one fell in love? What if one wanted their child to grow up how they did but for some reason or another, couldn't pass through the mirror as well?
Mother or father it doesn't matter, one of her parents could be Equestrian. This would make it impossible for there to be a Sunset Shimmer counter part on either side of the mirror for the plain fact that Equestria is missing the one pony to make that possible. Therefore, there can't be another exact her in either world cause technically, Sunset is the Sunset from BOTH worlds. True there could be another Sunset Shimmer but there is no way she would look the same due to the different genes on one side and the date of birth would most likely be different.
So, what do you think? Could Sunset really be the Sunset from Both worlds?
Whoa... Thats a big bomb to process, and its amazing how much it fits. I agree that the odds for the other Sunset not living in Cabterlot are quite low, considering all the characters we've seen so far. If she was dead then maybe an accident happened and it links to Equestria? (Like dunno, she died from a sickness but pony sunset lived through due to magic?)

I've actually been toying with another theory related to this, which may explain the age discrepancy between Sunset - Twilight.
So, what got me thinking was, 'How does the portal figure out how to make a human version of you?'
Even for a magical item, turning folks into identical copies of their metaphysical human counterparts instead of say actual ponies or dogs or something is pretty hard to swallow... unless it pings the closest metaphysically matching being, and copies their bodies at the time of the portal use. This makes more sense if you think that a safety feature of the portal is to find the best container that minimizes trauma to the mind/soul of the user right? And the best container would be one that is able to contain a near exact copy already.
Now, why would Sunset de-age x years, enough so that she is in the same year as twilight et al, if she is older in Equestria? The answer there is that the human sunset died at 13, exactly x years before Equestria Sunset traveled, so when she used the portal, the latest version it had on file to copy was the younger body. Twilight doesn't de-age because her counterpart is alive at the time to travel, so the portal mirror can copy her as of the time of travel.
So basically:
earth sunset dies at 13 -X years pass -> Earth Mane six turn 13, Sunset travels to earth, looks like 13yr old ----> EqG

I once read a fic about Sunset being Celestia's daughter, and that on the human world baby sunset sadly died due to complications during the pregnancy, but pony sunset lived through it thanks to Celestia being an alicorn, plus a good magical care

Cirrus Sky posits a similar theory in her Finding Home/Making Family stories. Sunset's mother accidentally falls through the portal while she is pregnant with Sunset. Unfortunately it's just before the portal closes. So Sunset is born in Equestria. Sunset's mother dies from a blood clot while Sunset is a foal. Sunset spends some time with a foster family before being accepted into Celestia's school.

Yeah I know, I read them too. I just got to thinking and expanded the idea more. You have to admit, Sunset is still the most mysterious character in Equestria Girls. I favor the theory where Sunset has a parent from both worlds.

I know the story you are talking about as well. I just can’t bloody remember the name of it. I know it’s in my favorites, but I have so many stories, that I would have to look through each one to find out what it is.
I actually never thaught of that, though the idea is great. Personally I favour the stories where something happens to both young Sunsets, like the Pony one teleporting herself away in a tentrum and the Human one being kidnapped.
But never the less, this idea is interesting and definetely worth exploring. If Sunset doesn't have a counterpart, what might be the impact on her life? Would it have none at all, or would she live twice the time (Don't ask me why my brain thought of this last part)?

Actually I've thought of that. I was recently thinking that with my parents from two different universes theory, there are also 2 other irregularities. Such as Sunset being born, caused whoever the pony mother and father to be is split up via the portal and they both ended up having two different kids. Same in the human world. I kinda theorize that starlight is actually sunsets counterpart but not having one at the same time. MUTIVERSE TRAVELING IS CONFUSING!!!

Jokes aside, I once even considered that this wasn't even multiverse traveling, but the coincidences required to get two worlds with nearly the same intelligent beings to work in such a different environment, compared to each other is nearly impossible... or is it?

just trying to help and there is a story that uses a similar theory you have here where one of sunset parents went through the portal on the human side but she was already pregnant when she went through and her pony counterpart wasn't.
I like this theory, makes the character of Sunset Shimmer more complex. Sunset Shimmer can be compared to characters like K(Blade Runner 2049), both characters have complex destinies.
