Forgotten Friendship Thougths (Warning Spoilers) · 1:44am Feb 24th, 2018
So with people calling Clover a he, and one person's fic forgetting that Wallflower was a she. I thought I'd finally give it a watch. I'll be pausing it and writing my opinions as I watch it. Followed by my final thoughts.

- So Sunset Shimmer singing ... they really needed to bring back her singer from the previous songs. Her voice just sounds weird. Did it sound weird to anyone else?
- Never mind ... her voice just sounds weird. I don't know what it is, but the voice just sounds off. Well her and Applejack.
- Poor Wallflower, everyone forgets her.
- WHY! Seriously! Why do they keep denying Sunset Shimmer her wings after she's done so much to earn them. Way more than SciTwi ever did.
- TROLOLOLOLOL! Trollestia strikes again. In the most inappropriate moment. But that hug afterwards was adorable.
- OMC! Twilight's squee is adorable.
- Luna sounds off as well.
- When Twilight got to the restricted section. I could've sworn she came ... someone needs to do fic on that.
- So ... Clover the Clever was a dude. Sad that that invalidates so many fanfics, and the show really could've cleared up Clover wasn't a mare ages ago. But it makes sense. Starswirl was a misogynistic asshole. Kind of sucks though.
- Trollestia strikes again. She definitely loves to troll her subjects. Sadly she's doing it at the wrong time with Sunset. Kind of ruins the heart warming moment they had just moments ago.
- Trixie finally gets a trick to work! Well to a given definition of work.
- SciTwi getting her friendship speech interrupted. That's a first for any Twilight.

Final thoughts. Some of the VA's just sounded like they were having lots of off days with their characters. But all in all, it was a rather nice vid. Excluding Shimmer hasn't gotten the wings she's earned, and Clover the Clever being a dude. But that later one really makes https://www.fimfiction.net/story/392063/the-beard-with-a-jerk-ass-hanging-off-of-it feel even more canonical.
Sunset's song didn't sound weird to me... However, I still didn't enjoy it all that much.
Eh, Starswirl may have been a jerk, but "misogynistic asshole" is way too harsh.
Clover the Clever being a guy didn't really affect my opinion on the special beyond making me go, "Huh... neat."
If this had had a scene with Starlight Glimmer, it would have been my pick for best EQG thing ever. As is, it's a close second to Mirror Magic

- It was just her voice throughout the show (heck the song itself was good. But her voice sounded like a totally different person singing, and a lot different than her other songs in the series). Her, AJ, and Luna's voices sounded a pitch off. Kind of like when you have a cold and your voice sounds just a bit off. I mean if they just had a cold in production ... then kudo's for them for soldiering on. But it still made their voices sound like different VA's.
- The thing with Clover the Clever was mostly the fact that the entire fanbase had Clover as a female (including several of my fav fics). Then dropping that he was a guy wasn't bad ... as much as it was slightly off putting and left me wondering why (with how important he was to Equestrian History) that they never made that fact know prior.
- Yeah. I can agree that Glim Glam could've used an appearance. She and Shimmer hit it off well in Mirror Magic (whose only gripe I have is not giving Shimmer her wings like she earned in Friendship Games. I mean frell! Give her her dues already!). As for Star Swirl. Mostly say that because:
1) This Star Swirl has a vibe that just feels like him.
and
2) Started things off by putting down Pinks when she said they "saved the world"; at the castle decided the best bet was to murder the Elements of Harmony (the actual Elements not the Bearers). Sacrificing all the harmonic magic it has over the lands with who knows what horrible consequences (but then again. He's canonically shown not to give a damn about consequences to his actions. Such as using HumanEquestria as his personal garbage bin for whatever he didn't feel like dealing with that day.).
The initial backhanded insult-compliment to Twilight in Pt.2. Of course you could say that he's just Arrogant; Narrow Minded; Petty (his only plan is to send Stygian to limbo and drag everyone down with him. Rather than using that brain of his to think of a less self-destructive approach; him looking at Stygian when Stygian took the artifacts and instead of taking 10 seconds to see what he was doing. Automatically judged him as being jealous and evil. Banishing him from the Pillars. Then the whole "Once evil. Always evil. There can be no reconciliation speech.)
The fact that he's every inch the judgmental grandpa look mixed with an elitist asshole mentality (that comes from being smarter than those around him at the time, and noone was left around to say otherwise). So yeah. Maybe not as mare hating as the fic linked. But he still has that vibe.
Sunset Shimmer is voiced and sang by Rebecca Stoichet, who hilariously is also Twilight Sparkle's singing voice making for numerous instances of Talking To Herself.
Similarly, Gilda and Sonata Dusk share a voice actress, and during recording Tabitha reads for Twilight Sparkle, since Tara Strong lives in LA.

Oh! I know. It just sounded different than how she normally portrays her. Actually had to look up the VA for both Shimmer and AJ. Her, AJ, and Luna just sounded off for the entire show. Not a lot, just enough to sound like a different VA.
But I didn't know she was also Twilight's singing voice. That's actually pretty cool to know, thanks for giving me that bit of trivia
