A JD Review - Black Panther (2018) · 1:03am Feb 19th, 2018

What an incredible experience. Marvel does it again.

Oh, Lord, what a great film. Believe the hype. Believe Wakanda. Believe the Black Panther. This is another success for Marvel and another incredible film in general. Without further adieu, let's get into it!

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

What is there to say? Black Panther is a great experience overall. Nearly every piece of this movie, heck, the whole movie was just so well done. The story, the cast, the conflict, and just the feel of the movie felt so... unique and unlike anything Marvel has put out before. It doesn't stray too far from the Marvel formula, though. I especially loved the villain, Killmonger. Easily one of the best villains Marvel has put out. And Chadwick Boseman absolutely kills it as T'Challa here. Everyone does a great job.

I honestly can't say much else without spoiling. Definitely check out the film.

10/10

SPOILER REVIEW

Gotta love this movie, man. The story was great. People liked to say this was the James Bond of the Marvel movies, and I can kind of see that. At moments you can feel that James Bond vibe, but honestly it's a bit more close to home and family than that. It turns out T'Chaka actually killed his brother, the father of Killmonger, because he tried to kill one of T'Chaka's friends. So, Killmonger's reasons for being the villain actually makes sense and can actually hold some weight. I really loved his story.

T'Challa's story at leading Wakanda out of the shadows after so long was also really cool. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the world reacts to how technologically advanced Wakanda truly is. Also, I was really expecting to see the final Infinity Stone, the Soul Stone, in this movie, considering it's the last film before Infinity War. Oh, well. Guess we'll see it in Infinity War.

Did you all see the movie yet? What did you think? Give your opinions below!

I saw it and i agree wholeheartedly!

A pretty amazing entry into the MCU. I think Shuri, T'Challa's little sister, is my favorite supporting character. Seriously, everything she does is comedy gold.
If I had to complain about anything, I was kinda disappointed that they killed Klaw. I'm a fan of Andy Serkis, and just how wacky the guy was, laughing his butt off while he shoots a guy in the back of the head and blows things up with his plasma cannon arm. Plus, if we'd kept him around, they could've done a Frightful Four thing with him, but oh well.
Killmonger really surprised me. The guy's completely unhinged, homicidal, and plans to enact a "black power" revolution that would, in reality, just kill a lot of people for no good reason, but he can't see past his own rage. I actually felt kinda sorry for him when he died. As much of a monster as he was, T'Chaka screwed him over by just leaving him.

The movie was amazing. Killmonger is tied with Vulture as my favorite MCU villain for just how well-written he is. Marvel's been on a role with writing villains since Civil War honestly.

I can't wait to see Wakanda again in Infinity War and to see Bucky back in action too. And at the very least, we have a hint to how the world will change after Avengers 4 with Wakanda now open to sharing their resources.

I'm also glad they had a scene where Killmonger threw T'Challa off a waterfall. A nice nod to the comics imo.

"Nah, bury me in the sea with my other ancestors who jumped from the ships. Because they knew death was better than bondage."

-Killmonger (A.K.A. Marvel not pulling their punches and allowing Ryan Coogler to make sure that line got in)

This line alone made the movie going from good to amazing at a drop of a hat. The score and soundtrack by Ludwig Goransson and Kendrick Lamar were top notch as well.

I've seen it and I'll definitely say its the best Marvel film I've seen so far this year. Chadwick Boseman once again nails it as T'Challa. Killmonger was a great villain and I could really sympathise with his motives.

It was a Fucking Masterpiece and maybe for the Soul Stone situation maybe instead on Earth maybe you could send it to Equestria to make a reason why Thanos would attack there to begin with

Did I tell you or did I tell you? It got a freaking standing ovation when I went to go see it. And a well deserved one in my opinion.

4800193 Yeah, I forget about the whole Klaw thing. Kinda wished they kept him longer.

4800211 They probably took fan reception at making better villains closer this time around. I'm all for it! The hero is only as good as the villain!

4800252 It just makes the villains more human, and I can appreciate that.

4800393 Easily one of Marvel's best. I expect a trilogy. :rainbowdetermined2:

4800426 Interesting... :trixieshiftright:

4800504 Barely anyone clapped in my theater. Kinda lame, but oh well.

4800426
Ok, but how exactly would that play out? Maybe the soul stone is what first powered the mirror to Canterlot high!

4800716
Huh my original was that the Soul Stone was what made the Tree of Harmony as it's Seed, but I just remembered that it was something the Pillars had that created the Tree

Loved this movie, Killmonger was a great villain, I get where he was coming from with his whole revenge thing against T'Challa, I as well thought the final Stone would be revealed in this film, but whatever, we don't even have to wait 3 Months for Infinity War anyway , anyway, another great movie by Marvel, they certainly are on a role

4800788
thats not a bad idea either.

4800926 It's like they can do no wrong. Hopefully they can keep up this streak.

4801727
Hopefully, Black Panther made me all the more hyped for Infinity War :pinkiehappy:, as well as your version of the movie of course

A really great movie indeed.

I'm also glad they had a scene where Killmonger threw T'Challa off a waterfall.

If he had played the Tekken games, he'd have known dropping an opponent from a waterfall or from anywhere high wasn't going to work.
