So I've been wondering... · 9:39pm Feb 7th, 2018
Should I add BGM to my story? I'd like to think the music can add some atmosphere to a situation and the story as a whole, but I could just as easily be wrong. I'm not really sure what the concensus is on whether or not people like having music in a story but I'll leave it up the readers.
If I do add music I won't just throw it all over the place, that'd be terrible but I will use it where I feel it's appropriate. As far as what kind of music I'll be using, well I've got a few composers in mind... but the overall music will be more on the melancholy side.
Let me know what you guys think. If yea I'll update existing chapters as I see fit, if nay well... nothing happens and I continue as I have been.
I say keep the music to fight scenes or endings. I would also recommend sticking to Prototype 1 and 2's soundtrack to fit the theme.

You know, I never thought to do that...
I'll have to check out the soundtracks.

Please tell me you've at least played Prototype 1 and 2. Otherwise, my standing of you just went down.

I own and have played the first Prototype (I mentioned as much in the A/N of the first chapter). The reason I never thought about using the soundtracks is because, as I said, I already had other music in mind that I was going to use and the ost for prototype is something I didn't really pay any attention to while I was playing the game.
Besides that, I'm not really doing a direct crossover of Prototype - I've said upfront that the story is going to be completely different and that I'm making some changes to the way the blacklight virus works. So whether or not I've actually played Prototype shouldn't really matter.
I don't mean to come off as confrontational - if I do I'm sorry, but I just wanted to make that clear.
My only issue with BGM is... it kinda breaks immersion for me to pause reading to open a link.

Yeah, I had also thought about that. That's why I didn't just go for it and decided to get opinions first.
There's no BGM in epubs...

I'm kinda confused on what you mean. I can download a .epub file, put it into an ebook reader app, and if there's a link to a youtube video (which is where I'd be getting the music) in the story, I can click on that and it plays fine.
Of course I might just be completely missing your point...

But it won't be embedded there...

Wait are you talking about embedding the video itself into the story, or adding a clickable link that leads to the video? Because I'm referring to the latter which works fine whether you're on fimfiction or an ebook reader.
