Hmm, where would he go first after Donut Joe's? Do you know where I can find a map of Canterlot?

You said the Pageant will be in the evening, one of the last things he does. Is there a market area in Canterlot like there is in Ponyville? Someplace where he might run into somepony interesting? Maybe Fancy Pants? Will the Canterlot ponies be able to tell he's not from around here? Will there be any conflict, or is this meant to just be a pleasant visit?

See if the answers to some of those questions give you any inspiration. If not, well, I wish I could do more.

Assaulted by carolers. Ground view of the weatherworking, or a SERIOUS snow fight courtesy of a playful weather team? Outdoor market selling various hearthswarming kitsch. Statuary, parks, ice sculptures? Little griffinstone/crystal empire/bitaly? Heck, even a cemetary would be pretty interesting. Probably heavily weighted towards mausoleums.

That last point's a very interesting one. You'd think space would be at a premium in Canterlot, unless the lower-income portions of the city are actually somewhere inside the mountain. How much room can there be for cemeteries?

Canterlot's definitely the ceremonial center of Equestria. They've likely got an Arlington-equivalent somewhere for the royal guard.

I’ve done a little free-associating, primarily playing with some earlier comments, and I think I have a direction for the next chapter (finally). However, there are some good nuggets here, and I definitely will use at least one, and possibly more, of the themes offered!
