A Thrilling Installment in the Ongoing Saga of Cradle-Robber Cheerilee · 6:20am Jan 10th, 2018
Eagle-eyed viewers who obsessively check their notifications might've seen an alert that Often Rhymes, a fittingly May-December romance story for a contest themed around seasons, got an update last night. That's because my art, by the wonderful SciSetDaily, came through.
(The art, if you're unaware, was part of the contest prize, along with six million dollars in cash and access to Oroboro's stash of high quality SunLight futanari erotica)
Said art depicts a scene that'd been a part of the story as far back as the original premise: Sunset Shimmer surprising Cheerilee with dinner, at an unspecified future point in their relationship. I cut it from my outline when I realized I'd have a hard enough time squeezing a complete story into the word restriction, without tacking on an epilogue, but I always wanted to include it once the contest had finished. And, while I considered a few other options for the contest art (including the scene from the story where Rainbow Dash and Rarity grind lewdly against a befuddled Applejack, or art for one of my other stories), the image of Sunset and Cheerilee snuggled together on the hood of Cheerilee's car was too compelling for me to pass up.
The specific turn that the chapter takes, however, was inspired by a comment that NikitaKitten left on Often Rhymes proper. Cheerilee, the comment noted, is insecure and emotionally immature, compared to Sunset. That gave me the idea for a possible sequel to this story, one which deals with Cheerilee's insecurity, and the problems it creates for her relationship with Sunset, a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy that the narration is meant to foreshadow.
That's what I want the sequel to be about, and that's what this chapter's supposed to lead into.
As for when I write it... I don't know, exactly. I have a couple contests I want to enter, plus my ongoing stories, plus numerous other stories that I've been kicking around for a while now (including one that I want to dust off as a response to the G5 leaks). But Often Rhymes was a hell of a lot of fun to write, and returning to these characters and their relationship gave me such a potent dose of that ol' dopamine that I can't resist dipping back into that well.
So we'll peek back in on Sunset and Cheerilee, a little ways down the line, and we'll see what becomes of their relationship.
There's a hint of their fate in the story's title, however.
The stuff she's written on that clipboard really would get her fired
Oh, wow. That, just, amazing. I just finished reading the epilogue (which I loved), and left a comment about how it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. I am beyond thrilled to find out that I helped inspire the direction that the epilogue took, even if it is a painful one.
I can't wait for the sequel, but of course I will.
4770612 As thanks for inspiring the sequel, I have left a saucer of warm (lactose-free) milk, and a small pouch of catnip, on my doorstep for you.
You've earned it.

too blissed out on catnip to form a coherent response
I knew Oro was holding out on us!
A sequel would be wonderful. Always nice to see what happens after a couple gets together, and the little teaser you dropped us definitely has me wanting more.
I knew there was a reason I entered the contest
