Aggravating Moments in Disgaea #2 · 12:26am Nov 27th, 2017

I don't have any screencaps this time, just a rant.

So earlier today I encountered a situation in a main story battle, not the Item World where the only way I could win the battle was to destroy the Base Panel.

Now, for those who've never played Disgaea: In every battle, there's a glowing blue portal called the Base Panel. This is where you call out your party members from. You can deploy a maximum of 10 units at a time, and there are a lot of tricks you can do that center around the Base Panel (including withdrawing units from battle by having them walk back to it/throwing them into it, so you can send out different doods). One thing you can do is throw enemies at your base panel. There's a couple of things that can happen when you do this, but more often than not, this is going to be something you don't do casually, BECAUSE...

An enemy thrown into your Base Panel is likely to kill everyone inside and destroy it. Every dood you DON'T have on the map is killed, and the Base Panel is destroyed, becoming a blank map tile.

So what POSSIBLE REASON could a sane, rational person have for intentionally destroying their Base Panel?

Here we go:

The second match in the Colosseum (Episode 6) is against Mister Geo, a master of manipulating Geo Panel puzzles, who creates a really nasty Geo Panel map for your battle with him. There's two ways to win this battle: the way the game tells you to win it, and the way I did it.

I'll be honest here: My party is ridiculously underleveled. I don't have any Druids or Star Mages unlocked yet. This is mostly because I've been using the DLC characters too much. Having a Druid or a Mage with REALLY good reach is the way to win the battle the way the game TELLS you to (destroy the red Geo Symbol, which is almost impossible to reach with any unit equipped with a gun or bow). But there's a blue Geo Symbol on the same color panels that's a lot easier to reach.

There's just one problem:

If you destroy the Red Geo Symbol? You'll Geo Break the map. But if you destroy the Blue Geo Symbol, well...

You end up with an entire map affected by an Invincibilty symbol. No panels except the Base Panel are free of Invincibility. Meaning there's no way you can damage any enemies, OR take damage.

There's no way to destroy the Invincibility symbol. Nowhere to throw it that isn't a yellow panel. Doing this effectively makes the map unwinnable without units that can screw up Geo Effects.

Unless.

Unless you think outside the box, grab an enemy, and throw them into your Base Panel.

Which is what I did.

I threw the nearest enemy into my Base Panel, and he destroyed it, leaving a blank tile (and killing everyone but the ten units I had out on the map--which I actually didn't know was a thing that would happen until after the fact, but it only cost 8k HL to revive my entire team). After that, I spent the next couple of turns tossing the Invincibility Symbol across the map to get it back to where my Base Panel used to be.

Once it was there, I stationed two units around the blank tile: One to throw the Symbol onto the blank tile while I took my turn, and one to throw it onto the yellow tile behind her at the end of my turn.

The rest of the battle consisted of me curbstomping the enemies on the map, then reactivating Invincibility during the enemy turn phase so that they couldn't scratch my doods.

Sometimes, thinking outside the box leads to amazingly hilarious results!

Ah interesting as that way was to beat that map why didnt you daisy throw a unit that could attack at the red panel. I thought you could do that in d2.

Because there was a forest of No Entry panels blocking the way to the red symbol. It was unreachable.

Yeah that would do it. Out of every type of geo panel no entry and ally damagen are the ones i hate the most.

Okay is this Disgaea 1 or 2 cause it sounds like your playing the 2nd one. But yeah I remember having that same problem...but here's the thing, the Geo I needed to destroy was blocked off by other Geos and I think one time(not sure if that match always changes) the invincibility geo was on an invincibility tile and I couldnt get to the damn thing somehow...

I do believe I noted in an earlier post I'm playing Disgaea 2 right now.

Oh and dood? Invincibility is ALWAYS on an Invincibility tile. That's WHY it's an Invincibility tile in the first place.

Ah, sorry.

And sorry, no need to tell it's been years since I last played the game

Brilliant! I never thought of that!
