So, goofy time: This is a blogpost just about my ponysona, Cola Bubble Gum. I was thinking about her the other day and kind of fleshed out stuff that I 'knew' was true but hadn't really ever thought about, so I wanted to post it here. ^_^
(I know this is a weird update, but to hell with it, I'm a weirdo!)
Cola Bubble Gum has a big family, of a sort! Her mom Tutti Frutti Gum (a unicorn) had three colts before she married Cola's dad, so Cola grew up with three older (half) brothers:
- Peppermint Gum
- Spearmint Gum
- Wintergreen Gum
Cola's dad Licorice Gum (an earth pony) also had kids before marrying Cola's mom, but Cola didn't grow up with them. (And yes, both her mom and dad had the last name 'Gum' before marrying each other! It's a really common name in some parts of Equestria, that's all. Like two people with the last name 'Smith' marrying each other, or 'Apple'!)
- Cinnamon Gum
- Starlight Mint Gum
- Tropical Punch Gum
Cola hasn't even MET Tropical Punch or Starlight, but her dad told her all about them. Cola's dad was kind of old when he had Cola, so Tropical and Starlight were basically already kind of starting their own lives elsewhere, and her dad didn't always get along with them, so they don't talk much.
However, Cola HAS met Cinnamon! Cinnamon is old enough to be Cola's mom, but they actually got along pretty well, after Cinnamon toned her bombasticness down a little and Cola's anxiety wasn't going off every time Cinnamon did something. Think Twilight and Pinkie, kind of? (Of course nobody could ever compare in bombasticness to Pinkie Pie, but Cinnamon is pretty bombastic!)
Cola's had a weird career path, even for a weird pony. She didn't go to the School for Gifted Unicorns, but she did go to a magic school, one that was closer to home than Canterlot. She did all right sometimes but really struggled with getting used to her own learning styles and limitations. After she graduated Unicorn Laude, she first got jobs working in magic production facilities, but found the work was actually a lot more boring and involved no real theory or boundary-pushing at all. Eventually she started writing in her spare time (she used to when she was a filly, but it had never occurred to her to pursue it as an actual vocation.)
Cola's always been mostly pretty quiet, and a little off kilter. She doesn't like that fact, though. She tends to observe equine behavior, for the most part, not engage in it, and it's hard for her to feel like she 'did' something in a lot of cases. She was surprised that her observational tendencies helped her a lot as a writer, but it did, and she was pretty happy about that aspect of it when she started writing. She still wishes she was the kind of mare who liked going to parties and hanging out more, but she's happy about being able to write books ponies love to read!
Nice to see you're still around!

For some values of 'still around', I am indeed. ^_^ Nice to see it's nice to see!
