    River City Equestria Girls?

Seriously, that's Pinkie Pie on the left, and Rainbow Dash on the right. Tell me I'm wrong.

I will not write a fanfic about the two of them getting into all the fights.

    Probably.

An "I don't have livejournal anymore" sort of update.

    It snowed yesterday.

Which just reminded me how much I don't like winter. It wasn't even a bad snow, just enough of a dusting to linger for a little bit. First one of the season. And I even had the day off from work, due to my schedule, so it's not like I had to do anything ...

    So I didn't.

    Happy Halloween!

So yeah. Despite various distractions (Steam had Darkest Dungeon for UNDER FOUR BUCKS), I've managed to hammer out a ridiculously shippy conclusion to the self indulgent Rarijack story I started.

So that's fun? I gave myself a deadline to finish things on Oct 31, so that's what I did, dangit. Hopefully you guys will enjoy.

TUMBLEWEED WATCHED A MOVIE · 4:02am Oct 16th, 2017

GENTLEMEN.

And maybe ladies.

But who are we kidding, this is FiMfiction: GENTLEMEN.

I have seen THE PONY MOVIE. It took me a little longer than anticipated, considering I had to enlist the services of a good friend of mine (who happens to be a lady) to serve as my alibi. Though, in catching the last showing on a Sunday, it meant the two of us were the only ones in the theater, which meant we could provide raucous running commentary. Whoo!

And, well ... I wasn't blown away by PONY MOVIE, but I didn't walk out of the theater angry, so that's a thing?

Honestly, the flick mostly felt crowded-- between Tempest Shadow, Capper, the Seaponies, those pirates, Songbird-pony (who is Sia again?) , there probably wasn't enough spotlight to go around. Also, Twilight & Co. didn't quite seem to have their shit together to the degree they do in the show. I mean, shouldn't they have a go-to 'Canterlot got invaded again' plan by now?

Visually, the movie was legit solid-- though the 'squishier' animation style took some getting used to on the big screen. Musically, I could take it or leave it-- though Pinkie got the best song (as per the usual). A lot of the instrumentals just felt kind of generic, I guess?

I liked Tempest Shadow a lot more than I thought I would, especially considering she's your horrible grimdark OC. Yes, I'm talking about you there, with the keyboard.

This said ... the Storm King was hardly a very compelling villain. I get the vaguely self-aware thing they were going for, it's just that Discord did it a lot better. He mostly seemed to be 'evil for the sake of being evil' without anything to back it up. I kept on rooting for Tempest Shadow to pull a Starscream and shank him in the back, but nooOOooo.

Really, the thing I'm curious about is to see if any of the PONY MOVIE characters will show up in the small-screen cartoon. As these days, most big pop-culture franchises split off in various directions/continuities at the drop of a hat-- the Marvel movies are a separate beast from the Marvel comics, for example. Metatext, folks! Also because I couldn't stop thinking of Transformers: The Movie the whole time, I kind of equated the seaponies to the Junkions.

But yeah. It was fun watching, even though if it was short on Rarijack subtext, and I can't quite find a compelling niche for Flash Sentry (HERO OF EQUESTRIA!) to work in behind the scenes.

I may ship Capper and Captain Whatsherface, though.

Nice. The movie sorta gave a Twempest shipping feel, especially at the end lol

Why ship them when you can ship Capperity?

Darn it, now I'm disappointed that Eric Idle didn't voice Queen Novo.

In any case, Carrot Top was definitely in Canterlot for Princess Twilight's holy day the Festival of Friendship. It's a slim angle, but possibly one you can work with.

I can hardly wait to watch the movie next weekend so I can no longer worry about avoiding spoilers. I think other fans here should put up spoiler tags for at least a couple of weeks to give everyone a chance to watch it. Not mad at you, just venting. It does sound like I should lower my expectations about the plot and pacing, though.

My sister is debating whether or not to take her two year-old daughter to see it. They both enjoy watching MLP, but I don't think the two year-old has ever sat through an entire movie without breaks.

Because Rarijack is canon, I tells you. CANON.

From my preliminary research, it appears that Flash Sentry slept through the Friendship Festival and subsequent invasion, on account of a quite thorough hangover. The location and exploits of Special Agent Golden Harvest (a.k.a. Carrot Top) are, unsurprisingly, much harder to verify in this same time period. Certain passages from the Flash Sentry Papers mention the invasion in passing, but it will likely be some time before I can present a complete volume on the subject.

Or maybe:

Flash has something to do with the complete absence of any Royal Guard ponies from Canterlot during the invasion. I mean, Shining Armor's not even there when his wife gets literally crystalized!

I have finally watched the movie! And my two year-old niece watched it too! She didn't start getting bored until near the end.

Musically, I could take it or leave it-- though Pinkie got the best song (as per the usual). A lot of the instrumentals just felt kind of generic, I guess?

I actually liked Capper's and Tempest's songs a lot. They sounded the most Disney-like. And Pinkie's song was good too, of course.

This said ... the Storm King was hardly a very compelling villain. I get the vaguely self-aware thing they were going for, it's just that Discord did it a lot better.

Yeah, my sister and I agreed that he wasn't the most threatening villain. Tirek and Discord were much bigger threats, and Discord was more entertaining, although the Storm King tries.

I may ship Capper and Captain Whatsherface, though.

I may ship Capper and Rarity, even though I ship Rarijack. Meh, I can be a mult-shipper.
