Another Contest Won and Done! · 4:08am Oct 13th, 2017
I've been laughing for months at this post, not for the reasons I should. The apple and the pear are no longer mere "friends," my good commenter.
People who know me well might notice that I barely do shippy stuff on the site. (Or rather, I tend to go for extremely slow burns, as Scene/Coco fans can attest to.) However, a few weeks ago, I decided to challenge myself a little and wrote a oneshot about a ship I'm quite fond of--DiamondBloom. There were tons of amazing entrants who seemed to know a ton more about romance writing than I do, but apparently, I'm not so bad at it.
I ended up winning first place in this contest, one that was far more heavily promoted and had higher stakes than the last. And, while I'm still trying to figure out my use in the world, winning two FiMFiction contests in one year feels pretty darn good. Thanks to all my fans for making this possible and for making me confident enough to try out a genre I don't often turn to. (Let's hope this same principle works when I try to navigate my way through the legal/courtroom genre with IGYALL's final parts!)
Anyway, I've been quite busy with unanticipated real-world projects this week (AKA a publishing company wanting to put some of my poems in a "rising stars of [state name here]" showcase), and just today, I came down with a bad bug. So unfortunately, Actress Square and Light Pollution have been suffering for it. But I'm down to the last poem I need to write/submit, and progress should return to normal by next week...once I stop staring in amazed disbelief about today's Scootafamily revelation, at least.
So I'll wrap this post up by saying that if you're in the Kansas City area anywhere around October 27, CanterlotKC, the replacement to Midwest Brony Fest, will be going on the entire weekend. I'll be paneling like past years, and MLP comic artist Thom Zahler and the ever-controversial ILoveKimPossibleALot will also be there. This is the first year for this con, and it's up against Nightmare Nights at that, so even if there aren't any VAs this time around, please check it out if you live nearby.
This is Quillamore, signing off. Keep supporting your local FiMFiction writers, and keep looking up!
Congratulations! Excellent work on your stories as usual, and I wish you all the best!
This is the appeal of Christopher Robin (and, I suppose, of Ramona Quimby): a child portrayed not as a comically ignorant adult, but as a fierce, agile intelligence figuring out the world and finding unexpectedly elegant answers to questions adults disposed of long ago.
