Episode Thoughts: Lightning Round · 3:09am Aug 13th, 2017
Well, in doing other things like real life stuff, art, writing, and trying to finish my little Party Pony Thingamabubby, I neglected my episode thoughts. Since I've got four episodes to catch up on, I ought just do short, quick thoughts on these things.
Ready, Sketch? GO!
Not Asking For Trouble
~What was this episode about again? Oh, yaks. Eugh...
~Pinkie Pie is a thing of beauty in this episode and I want more of balanced silly-serious Pinkie.
~On the other hand, I hate Prince Rutherford, and I don't find the Yaks interesting.
~I hope this village is just a small part of Yakyakistan and not the entire thing. I don't like the yaks, but they don't deserve their world being puny.
~Okay, I admit it... the vanilla cakes look absolutely scrumptious to me.
~How did you not all freeze to death overnight?
~Your moral confuses me. So, you don't ask for help, then congratulate Pinkie for helping behind your back and act like this was some sort of secret test of character all along? Oh, wait, I think I got something... oh, wait, never mind, I'm still confused.
~I completely forgot most of this episode and I don't care.
Discordant Harmony
~I'm getting hungry just watching Discord's fingers eat the... finger food...
~Couldn't Discord just summon the tea implements out of thin air like he always does instead of just buying them?
~I swear, that tune that the Ginseng teabags are singing is going to be stuck in my hea--oh, wait, already is.
~That tea shop pony looks like Cheerilee. Are they related...?
~The pinata sounds like Pinkie Pie.
~After the horrors of Dapper Discord, Gangsta Discord, and Tudor Discord, I'm kinda happy he settled on the Mr. Rogers look.
~Uh, be yourself, Discord. No, really, if you're not yourself on purpose, you're doomed to vanish.
~Ugh, the preparations dragged out the episode enough that the resolution just seems too easy, and that kinda disappoints me. Aw, well, at least this was a visual treat, and the teabag song is still stuck in my head.
The Perfect Pear
~*crying and sobbing the whole way through, because this episode is beautiful and perfect and is easily one of my favorites*
~That song is so sweet, this romance is so sweet, everything is so sweet!
~Well, I don't know if Bright Mac will be used for a name (I mean, Big Mac's kind of a Macintosh Jr. already, though no Bright in the name), but I can easily buy one of the Apple Siblings naming a daughter Buttercup in honor of their mother.
~The first time I watched this, I thought Burnt Oak was Bright Mac's brother. Turns out I misheard "buddy" as "brother".
~Did I tweak Haralson's Birthday Bio? Yes, yes I did. And since we didn't see any sibs for Bright Mac (I refuse to believe he's an only foal, so I'm going with his sibs are just working the orchard all the time), I think I'm safe in the Uncle Haralson thing.
~Chiffon Swirl? HOW DO PONY NAMES WORK.
~The "Are you making me choose?" scene is heartbreaking. Especially considering Pear Butter has died before she and her father could mend fences. Geez, I can't imagine the regret that Grand Pear is feeling, especially since he can't mend fences with her now.
~Did I mention that this episode is beautiful? It's my second favorite now (sorry, Pinkie Pride has more of a personal message for me, and you'll pry my fangirlness for Cheese Sandwich from my cold, dead fingers).
Fame and Misfortune
~Do I change the name of Toola Roola from Brotherly Bonding Time because of this episode? Heck, no, I'm too deep in that to just change it! I'm just gonna make a joke about this sometime in the story.
~*Cheese Sandwich is briefly mentioned*; *I squeal in utter fangirl joy as fireworks burst and Ode to Joy plays in the background* I TAKE WHAT I CAN GET, CUPCAKE!
~Apparently publishing a book and giving it to bookstores to sell is that easy in Equestria...
~I wonder, how much detail is in the entries, anyway? Rainbow Falls is mentioned to be a chapter, which is at least a few pages, and now Daring Do is known to be a real pony (seriously, wasn't that supposed to be a secret?).
~"YOU'VE KNOWN ME FOR YEARS!" is a great line.
~Stressed Rarity is terrifying... I half-expected her gown to be made of pony hide, yeesh.
~Oh, crap, did a bunch of ponies just start a cult around Applejack?
~Okay, all these ponies are crazy and need a life. Especially the Apple cult.
~And that pegasus filly sounds like Pinkie Pie with a slight accent! I swear, if we get a third Pinkie-sounding extra this season...
~Hey, that song was better than expected. Too bad those ponies are still idiots and have to argue. At least those two fillies got the point of the Friendship Journal and did something with the lessons they learned.
~This is probably the funniest meta-episode I've ever seen.
And that's a wrap for my thoughts, and I try to get thoughts out on next week's episode. See you next time, hopefully with my finished Big Party Pony List!
That latest episode was way too real. And I can't decide if complaining about the near-riotous hordes never really getting resolved is missing the point or not.
