Community or just getting the work done? · 10:57pm Aug 5th, 2017
I frequently find myself reading other author's posts on my feed and spending quite a while writing a response, only to either delete it completely or whittling it down to a spare paragraph or two that don't say what I want to say. It's frustrating to self-censor and end up being mostly silent when you have so much to say that may be helpful for someone else.
Mostly I wind up limiting myself to sending a PM to an author to point out typos that I noticed in the latest chapter of their story that I'm following. While this has almost always been met with a 'thank you' and I feel like I've helped a little; it's not really much of an interaction with the community here.
I'm a 'wallflower'. Background Pony #36. I'd rather be at the edge of the herd, unnoticed and quietly doing my own thing. But this isn't because I don't want to be involved, I just find it too painful and too much work to make the attempt.
There's also that old adage that writers don't write about writing, they just write.
Waste two hours fighting to compose a comment only to hack it down to a single sentence, or invest two hours working on one of my stories?
So, back to writing. Writing before Community. This is the only sensible choice for me.
The next chapter of Daeling With Yt is coming along ok. It and the next one or two chapters are kind of 'filler' before I get to the final story arc. It's slow because although I'm writing filler, I want it to at least be interesting to read.
I've also been distracted by another story that INSISTED on being written. It's a very silly erotic comedy. Forty-five pages in Google Docs (so far), but its one-chapter-and-done and the first draft is complete, so I should have it posted soon.
