Wow! Wow!
Okay, I admit it. I went into that episode thinking that it was going to suck. I'm not a baby person. I don't think their antics are cute. I wasn't a huge fan of The Crystalling. I had very low expectations.
However, I have to say that I really did enjoy Flurry of Emotions. Twilight was great trying to be the best aunt ever and her normal, perfectionist self. Spike was used in his best role: sane, beleaguered voice of reason in the eye of the storm. Flurry Heart didn't grate on me, though her baby-ness is a little much at some points. Also Flurry Heart OP, plz nerf. Somewhere, Scootaloo is kicking at the dirt and sighing.
This episode also featured Competent, Has Her Shit Together Pinkie Pie, which I'm happy to see (also return of Baker Pinkie Pie. Remember when she baked as a profession?), and Cheerilee! So happy to see (and hear) Cheerilee again.
There was also a literal laugh out loud moment for me when Pinkie used that stamp on Twilight. I was not expecting its hilariously sad face.
So I gotta say that I thought this one was a winner. Funny, charming, heart-warming, and about the ponies that I came to the dance with. Starlight, I'm warming up to you a little bit, but I'm happy when you aren't around.
EDIT: Oh, and they mentioned Grogar!
Yeah, I’ve been liking all of season 7 so far.
I mean, I like all episodes of pony, but I also really like season 7 so far.
Also I may have been biased towards this episode because I spent time with my niece before watching it.
Completely unrealistic. No diapers were changed for the entirety of the episode.
0/10
Slice of life is more fun when it involves world-ending demon spawn.
ONE DAY, SHE WILL REALIZE SHE SUCKS
New writers for this one. They look as if they get the show, which is always encouraging.
Yeah, this one blew my expectations out of the water, too. Heck, they even made a small stab at giving Cadance and Shining something to do, even if the poor toy-sellers weren't able to stomach the idea of breaking out of their box. We got an amusing new character, Cheerilee and Redheart doing things, a toy store, all manner of funny lines and scenes, and two kickass G1 references to top it all off. The new writers can stay.
Any episode that gives Cheerilee something to do is a fine episode, in my humble, totally skewed and biased opinion. Not to mention that the rest of the episode was actually very well-done. I have to say that I like Ponk the most when she brings that very enthusiastic and silly, yet collected side of her personality, not the usual over-the-top hamminess that we've gotten lately.
Overall, a very solid 9/10.
Seriously though, am I the only one who kept screaming at the screen that Twilight should get that useless freeloader who recently "graduated" to help her with at least one of her tasks? Just make Starlight watch the stupid baby until you are done with the things you had scheduled.
...
On second thought, take care of the baby yourself and send Starlight to do the book-reading and cake-delivering. How could she possibly have messed that up?
...
On third thought, maybe it's good Starlight just stayed in her room and "studied magic" with Trixie.
