An idea - FEEDBACK PLZ · 2:20am Feb 9th, 2017
So I just recently published THIS Over on Friendship Shorts which is where I put ideas for Discovering Friendship and while the idea itself isn't canon to the main story, IT IS some things I've been thinking really hard about for the Future of Discovering Friendship. So I would really really love some feedback on it guys.
Tagging Discovering Friendship as it is the focal point of this, can't tag both stories because rules (Long ago, in my day, you could tag all your stories if you wanted to. With some people have 30+ stories, this became annoying very quickly and was reduced to a single story being tagged)
Man that looks brutal! I like it.
so the dark tournament was team based...is this strictly 1v1?
A tournament could be good, but it depends on how "strong" each character gets, making sure the antagonists aren't too OP, and not make the fights 100% predictable.
As of right now the only element bearers I see winning are Rainbow or Pinkie.
Fluttershy hates her powers and won't want to use them (I don't even know how you'd get her into the tournament unless it was mandatory)
Twilight's true potential hasn't been reached yet. I vaguely remember her mother wanting to train her to improve and until that happens I'm not sure exactly how good she is in real combat without the Rainbow/AJ meat shield.
Rarity's true powers unlock with AJ's blood (and maybe a desire to protect her loved ones...can't remember). So unless she gets a drink from AJ before her fights she's handicapped.
AJ...I'd almost bet money on AJ being the first one out (if Fluttershy actually fights). She may be the strongest physically (right now), but as we saw with Fluttershy, that doesn't mean a thing if you can't hit them. She doesn't seem to have as many tricks up her sleeve when it comes to tactics and fighting abilities like the others. Even pitting her against the other bearers she appears to come in last (if everyone fights to her fullest). I feel like she'll need to grow the most to avoid an early elimination.
Although i suppose Rainbow or Pinkie winning could be a good thing since it feels like Twilight or Fluttershy (mostly Fluttershy) typically wins competitions involving everyone.
4415460 this idea is a far flung future kind of thing. The CMC are young adults and everyone has had years to bring their abilities to their true potential, thus Spike's transformation.
It's not something completely fleshed out, just an idea that could lead to specific things happening in the Canon story. I might just make this tournament thing a Non-Canon side-fic. Been thinking of doing a Death Battle kind of thing to see who'd come out on top for a while now anyway, but I really really like how you broke down each character in this post. It means a lot to me that someone has read that far into the story and knows them so well.
The fights are 1v1, before this fight it was team based until the teams were dropped down to about 5 teams of 3. At that point it became a mix and match free for all where only 1 can come out on top.
Teams
Twilight, Rainbow, and Applejack
Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity
Spike, Spitfire, Vinyl
Nyx, Applebloom, Scootaloo
Villain 1, Villain 2, Villain 3
Each team has their own reasons for trying to win, as does each person. The Tournament is being held by a God that not even the Elements of Harmony are powerful enough against. It is a form of amusement for said God and only when 1 comes out on top will they allow it to end.
They already tried standing against it and it didn't end too well. So here they are, fighting to the death/near death or losing everything.
