[NaNoWriMo Intensifies] · 6:53am Nov 17th, 2016
Things have been quiet here in CoffeeMinion Tower since dropping Change We Can Believe In. For the last couple weeks I've been in super-anti-social mode, just putting my head down every day and writing like one crazy mofo. Because it's time again for NaNoWriMo, and this year, I'm hungry for it.
Fact: At time of writing this was the first pony-related Google Image search result for "one crazy mofo"
Part of that can be chalked-up to looking at certain recent election results and going, "Huh, that went in a different direction than I expected." Part of it is just that I've had tons of pent-up story ideas accumulating over the last year, and some of them are bubbling to the top and making it clear that they friggin' need to get done.
I was honestly just going to spend the month doing a proper job of working on To Serve In Hell, but then I ended up writing a little something as a warmup... and then I went and finished polishing Change We Can Believe In because I realized it would be perfect to release on election day... and then I switched back and finished a draft of the Starlight and Sonata story I teased a while back... and now I'm hauling arse toward the end of the Limestone Pie X Flash Sentry story I've jabbered about a few times since last November. That one in particular has grabbed me, and as of right now I think it's going to be the longest thing I've released on FimFiction when it finally goes live. By no means does this spell doom for To Serve In Hell, though; I maintain that everything I've done up to this point in NaNoWriMo is still just a warmup for the big push on that. As soon as FlashLime is all drafted... IT! IS! ON!
Okay, so what. Why does any of this matter?
"Tell us, fashion horse!"
This year has been insane for me. I think back to 2015, and my discovery of the fandom, and how everything at home and work just made it such a natural thing to jump on board. I thought I didn't have much time back then, but by 2016 standards, I had tons. The run-up to having Baby Wubs was stressful, and work has been on a quest to eat my brain since I got back from time off for that. Going to Whinny City and Ponyville Ciderfest this year were amazing, beautiful, incredible experiences, but it's like it's been easier to get away for a whole weekend once or twice than to get the little bits of regular time it takes to maintain consistent output. So at the moment, since my family has decided to go 100% all-in with NaNoWriMo this year, I am grabbing this opportunity to get some solid daily writing time and playing it to the hilt.
I guess what I'm trying to say in a horrifically roundabout way is thank you. The fact is that I've got stuff to write about that I care about, and recent evidence suggests that people are reading some of it, and that rocks. I mean, Change We Can Believe In hit the feature box... for a grand total of 5 minutes, but it got there. And hopefully the stuff I'm working on now will help to fuel at least the illusion of consistent output in 2017, as I'm looking at having a fair few stories banked now (and/or mired in the editing process).
So, in conclusion: Don't drink cider and stay up til 1AM writing about cartoon horses on a work night. Do as I say, not as I do!
Somepony else hit by the spell of the NaPoWriMo..... You remind me on myself two years ago.
A month long done nothing but writing, with a goal of at least one short story consisting of 2,000 words every day, to reach an amount of 60,000 words at the end of the month.
I did not write thirty short stories as planned..... But ended up writing more than 100,000 words, almost doubling my goal!
It brought out some of my best writing and my best writing up until that point, as well as some really great ideas I can build on later.
I hope it helps you as much as it helped me, so that your writing becomes even better than it already is.
Where does all the time go?
I somehow have been using this month as an excuse to write tons as well, I have no idea how much I've done so far, but I don't think it approaches what you've put out.

Huzzah! The writing hath been doubled!
4306448 Sounds righteous. I did a double NaNo myself once several years ago, before kids and other life changes. But nobody ever read it, so I didn't learn much. The great thing I've found about writing for pony is that people actually read things and give feedback!
4306664 Remember, it's not the size of your story that matters, but what you do with it...
