I'm so excited to read your upcoming "MLP/Marvel Universe" crossover, JD. :)
'm with Cap all the way, as you can't really trust the government...But I feel that something never felt quite right about the movie with its limited roster for the two sides...
Have you considered introducing more of Marvel's superheroes into the fray in your MLP/Marvel crossover?
I ask because I kinda agree with CinemaSins on how it wasn't really a Civil War, more like a big battle, even with the Winter Soldier, there was only ten participants, five on each side until the twist with Black Widow.
It would make this more like a war if other heroes are involved, but if using other MCU heroes seems a little too much like wishful thinking, then I have one solution that would change up the formula of not only this story but maybe all others you may write in the future...
My solution; the concept of there being 'pony versions' (ergo other dimensional counterparts) of all the Marvel Superheroes (or DC if you have plans for the other Marvel heroes), more like how the Avenger's introduction triggered a Marvel universe copy in the pony universe with its own heroes filling in the niches of various superheroes in all of fiction. A few examples would be pony fill-ins for Doctor Strange, Daredevil, Batman, Cyborg, etc.
That is how you could stay true to Captain America: Civil War, while making it notably different from both the film and all your other stories...
With that, I await your reply and listen to this piece of music from Doctor Strange (Oh My Freakin' God, that was an awesome movie!);
