Top Ten Colts and Fillies, Version 3 · 4:46pm Nov 4th, 2016
This time around there are some newcomers that are going to make the list. Season 6 may have also been sparse when it comes to new colts and fillies, but at least two made a lasting impression. Here's the second version, let's see who made the list.
10. Petunia Paleo
Why she was added: While her full name wasn't mentioned on screen and she only appeared at the start of "The Fault in Our Cutie Marks", Petunia had enough of a presence to justify being included. Interestingly, she shares the same voice actress as her mother, though I have to wonder if, because of how it was worded, I was the only one who at first thought Petunia's parents were Scootaloo's parents until the episode cleared it up.
9. Snails
Why he was added: Like it or hate it, "Buckball Season" stood out for one reason, Snails was actually useful for once instead of just being an idiot. Him being something of a zen master in his own way was a refreshing take and a nice change of pace. Hopefully his friend Snips can get the same kind of treatment next season, or at some point down the road.
8. Featherweight
Why he moved down: After getting a big speaking role last season, Featherweight not only went back to being silent this season but also to my knowledge he did not appear at all. It's kind of a shame, but considering there's another pegasus colt out there who's more popular, especially for toy ships, it's not surprising.
7. Twist
Why she moved down: It's official now that her voice actresses has left DHX and moved to Pennsylvania, according to an interview she gave that was published on Equestria Daily. In that interview, Twist's VA also mentioned that she auditioned for the show alongside Chantel Strand and Shanon Chan-Kent, the voices of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon respectively, since the three of them are good friends in real life. Perhaps because of that, DHX doesn't want to recast Twist with a different speaking voice, out of respect for the bond Chantel and Shanon had with her original voice actress. Oh well, at least there's fanfics and comics.
6. Tender Taps
Why he was added: I would've put him in the top five, but poor Tender Taps has been practically forgotten by the fandom, in spite of his shipping potential with Apple Bloom and even Scootaloo. Heck, some people were comparing him to BlackGryphon who has done lots of collabs with Michelle Creber, who is Apple Bloom's voice actress. As I said before, maybe if Tender Taps had been the focus of "On Your Marks" from the start instead of being hastily made relevant in the last third of the episode, he would've left more of an impression and thus wouldn't be ignored. At least he was acknowledged in "The Fault in Our Cutie Marks", so the show hasn't forgotten him.
5. Babs Seed
Why she stayed the same: I really do hope Gabby wasn't created to replace Babs as the fourth member of The Cutie Mark Crusaders, especially considering Babs was supposedly going to make a return appearance this season (unless the entire thing was an elaborate hoax by the DHX staff). Babs' VA is still with DHX and has still expressed interest in coming back to voice Babs, and not even the IDW comics have referenced her since she got her cutie mark. Babs is still my favorite crusader, and probably always will be.
4. Rumble
Why he stayed the same: Rumbleloo still remains probably one of the strongest straight ships for Scootaloo (I don't really know if any fics have shipped Scootaloo with Featherweight, Snips, or Snails), but Rumble has still been very much absent since his introduction in Season 2, in spite of fics focusing on his relationship with his big brother Thunderlane, and the Cloud twins Flitter and Cloudchaser (they're often assumed in fanon to be his foalsitters).
3. Pipsqueak
Why he moved down: It seems that, for now at least, Pipsqueak isn't joining The Cutie Mark Crusaders. He still likely remains class president, and now he's officially been shipped with Diamond Tiara (I was also considering writing one, but other obligations and school work caused it to be shelved, I may come back to it next year). But that's about as far of an impact he's made on the fandom within the past year, otherwise he's been pretty much absent and neglected.
2. Silver Spoon
Why she moved up: In terms of the show Silver Spoon hasn't gotten much attention, but in fanfics she's become increasingly popular since "Crusaders of The Lost Mark", both with and without her gal pal Diamond Tiara. She still does need to define herself as something besides Diamond Tiara's lackey though, even if her cameo in "On Your Marks" was adorable.
1. Diamond Tiara
Why she stayed the same: Diamond Tiara has only got more popular in the fandom since her reformation, despite sadly not getting any speaking roles at all this season while her mother got two (who's bright idea was it to have that be a thing?). You'll notice that Diamond Tiara has also become quite popular with me, as I've written a few fanfics involving her since her reformation, one of which hit the feature box back at the end of Feburary. I should mention that "The One Where Diamond Tiara and Scootaloo Have A Sleepover" and "Diamond's Dog Day" are part of a planned triology of fics focusing on Diamond Tiara's friendship with each of the CMC, and the third and final installment should hopefully come out by the end of the year (it'll take place in the background of "A Hearth's Warming Tail' and feature Diamond Tiara and Apple Bloom, but that's all I'll say for now).
