    Hi.

Been a while, but I'm still floating around now and then. Been thinking about ponystories a lot, and how I have one more in me that I'd REALLY like to write.
Life has been weird, though. I'm now on a horse farm in the horse state, rather than a graveyard-adjacent house in the cheese state. There has been joy and sorrow and, you know, life.

    Also, Commissions For Charity

So right now I’m offering vignettes (roughly 1000-2000 words) as commissions, but instead of paying me you make a donation to charity. Any charity. If you need suggestions, then:

    Charity: Center for Disaster Philanthropy

So okay. Originally I was going to raise money for something closer to home but the barn has secured a grant that makes me less worried about it, and I think my efforts would be better focused here.

    Next Month: Charity Time

So I'm thinking that next month I'd like to run a charity event, but this will be a little different from previous events and I'm trying to figure out how to make it work.

    Happy Hearts and Hooves

In other news, I'm going to be getting a charity thing up and running maybe next month, so that should be exciting. We'll see how it goes, though. The format will be a little different but hopefully it'll be a lot of fun for everyone.

Tournament Time Again · 12:48am Oct 31st, 2016

So the Tournament of Canterlot starts again on November 1st. The thing I wrote a charity story for, yeah.

A big thank you, again, to everyone who contributed any amount at all. It all helped. Not just my ego, but we made a difference in providing for less fortunate people: in my case, both near and far.

I hope that we can get not just more donations, but more participants this year. It really was a lot of fun to write people's ideas as I went and to make it more interactive. I found it made for excellent practice, trying to link all these different ideas together and make it all make sense, and it was good for both exposure and for just being able to give back a little to my audience. I wish I had a better way to interact with all of you, and this really helps me do that, which I enjoy.

I was asked to give some advice on how to really succeed with the fundraising, and the biggest thing was the fact that I made the story interactive, I think. I mean, by itself, it's kind of a weird all-over-the-place story. But that was part of the fun, I think, and part of what I enjoyed was taking the ideas that I was given and just. Writing it in and making it fit, even if it took a bit of bludgeoning sometimes and it went all over the place. I'm also fortunate to have people who actually like my writing, but I think anyone could be successful with their own fundraising if they're wiling to give a little bit of extra effort. People are willing to help out if you're willing to show them that you can do the work, so to speak.

And of course it helped that I made journals constantly pestering people to donate. Sometimes you just have to keep asking. Most people want to help out with a good cause, but circumstances don't allow. But if you remind people gently every now and then, when things get better, they're often more than willing to help out.

That's about all that comes to mind. If anyone has any extra questions, I'm more'n happy to answer them, too. I look forwards to seeing what stories people submit this year for the Tournament, and best of luck to everyone.

This probably helps the most.:trollestia:

Have a link to the competition? Sounds interesting.

Certainly. The group should be coming live again and be updated in November, once we officially start.

Will you be participating again this year? I had fun with last year's story.

I'm definitely planning to, yeah. I'm going to try and do a better job of organizing the way I write the story this year to give more people a chance to participate and so everyone knows what they can get. I think leaving it so open was part of what made it confusing for people to donate.

That makes sense. That way people would be able to donate whatever and get what they expect. I think? Either way I can't wait to see how the next story evolves with the input from everyone.
