    the mystic cypher reborn

so, get ready folks. the mystic cypher is getting a comeback, with some changes. i just got campfire and will be making progress over the next couple of weeks. the basic premise will be the same, however there will be drastic rewrites in the story for when Nick arrives in equestria. but with my new tools and the last few years of thought on what to do with writing i think its time.

oc submission · 7:51am Oct 24th, 2016

ok, so here are the basic ground rules for any oc's you want to see in the story.

1.) NO GODS I cannot stress this enough. while making your character badass will only help your character get in, making them absolutely godlike is automatic disqualification.

2.) NO HUMANS while I know some may want to put another human in the story for one reason or another, to me in my personal experience that is very rare for it to work, and even rarer to work well. I have no intentions of adding any more humans to the story, even though Nick barely even qualifies as human at this point.

3.) NO COPY AND PASTE CHARACTERS basically don't go making characters that are essentially the same as another character with slight differences.

4.) BADASS FOR A REASON as I said making your character badass would help if the character is in the warrior class, don't go making the classic dark and brooding warrior out to avenge his family or some shit like that. their reason for being badass could be as simple as they grew up as a warrior monk, or their a military brat that followed in their parent's footsteps or something.

5.)stick to the script don't give me any empty slates with a power set. give me real fleshed out character. like for example, Iron will is a retired elite royal guard who works as a blacksmith and is the grand champion of his home town's arena, he is Trixie's adoptive father and Iron Will's biological father, his family line descends from the vanguard that wielded the fragment's of Gaia in service to the king. He is a rather big perv but is a incredibly skilled warrior and a kind man. do try to keep your character description brief enough that everything isn't immediately known in the comments, if you want some things to be learned later, I will pm you for the full thing so I know everything I need to for the character.

6.) SENTIENT OC so now that your character is set, it needs to be one of the following races, each one will have a description. no wacky out of left field creatures.

pony: now ponies have more or less the same archetype with several sub variants.

Unicorn: physically the weakest, slowest, and least durable without magic augments, unicorns make up for their physical shortcomings with their mental and magical prowess.

Pegasus: pegasi have internal magic that they use with their bodies, flight, controlling weather via touch, ext, they are the fastest of the pony tribes and have medium level endurance. typically they have the second highest martial skills of the five pony tribes.

Thestral: Thestrals are second to none in stealth and are the single most skilled pony tribe in martial arts. while not as fast or agile as a Pegasus, a Thestral have night vision and magic that makes them blend in with darkness and stronger while directly in moonlight.

Earth Pony: physically the strongest of the five pony tribes earth ponies have integral magic that augment their already considerable strength. an earth pony would be about 3 times stronger than a pony of similar size and physique. earth ponies are only second to crystal ponies in physical endurance.

Crystal ponies: not quite as strong as earth ponies, Crystal ponies have the highest endurance of the five tribes.

Dragons: Dragons have a mountain of strength, can breath fire, and have scales like armor. currently their magic is sealed save for lord torch. while mostly a warrior race they are not the brightest.

Kirin: Kirin have the highest magical capabilities of any race, they have scales in some parts of their body such as their back, stomach, chest, tail, and outer limbs the rest is covered in fur. their horns are pointed back, they are typically a either nomadic or live in temples like monks.

Changelings: an all female race, Changelings are masters of espionage and disguise, their magic ability is similar to unicorns but is determined by how much love they are given. a queen can be on par with an alicorn if feed enough love, while a changeling will typically have enough to mach an s class unicorn if feed enough love.

Gryphons: have many of the same traits as Pegasus, but is bigger stronger, normally slower, but can fly for longer. and are less agile.

Minotaur: have many of the same traits as earth ponies, but are stronger, bigger, and they are less agile than an earth pony but can take more damage.

diamond dog: diamond dogs are more on the feral side of things, having the lowest intelligence they typically travel in packs, they follow a pack alpha that is typically not only the strongest but more often then not the smartest of the pack. all packs ultimately serve the diamond dog god. they can tunnel through the earth like its water, they are naturally armed with wicked teeth and claws and favor weapons that capitalize on that such as clawed gauntlets.

sea pony" while sea ponies are technically a variant of pony, they are in are ruled by an individual deity not allied with equestrian like the other tribes. they are masters of any water based magic, can breath water (doi)

Zebra: have similar traits to earth ponies, but are not as strong, they are master's of alchemy.

Horses: taller than a normal pony, same traits as a minotaur, specialize in venom types.

yak: don't bother.

7.) STICK TO THE SKILL SET!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unfortunately a lot of people have been giving me oc's that break at least on of the rules, and one that I had hoped would be obvious. when you make an oc, they can't have all these wacky powers, if it's a dragon, no magic outside of messaging fire. their other forms of magic are sealed for story purpose's and still would not accommodate wacky powers like a bleach zanpakuto. if you are a unicorn then stick to unicorn magic, there are some slight exeptions to this, such as an amulet that allows them to do this, and it can't be an over powered thing like blast any enemy to bits regardless of how strong they are or grant like 20 powers.

8.) give me a personality kind and gentle are personality traits. so someone that is normally kind and gentle isn't giving me much to go on. give me a brief history of the character, are they a farmer? soldier? mercenary? outlaw? do they have a family? what are their likes and dislikes? beliefs? do they serve anyone? code of honor or not? remember these characters don't have to be fighters, they could be as simple as a bar tender. giving me a few personality traits attached to a out of bounds power set isn't the same as giving me an oc.

9.) in order to get a general idea for where the average individual is at i'ma do a sort of stat sheet, think of this as building a d&d or fallout character. your character still can still have unique traits or items, but I'll leave that up to you.

now i'm going to make a sort of guide, to help people get a sense of these traits. each trait is ranked 1-10

Strength: at 1 your character would be about as fragile as fluttershy, 3-4 is average at 6 you would be about as strong as Iron Fist. 7-10 are dragon strength, a full grown dragon would have a strength of about 10.

Perception: 1 your about as perceptive as..... a rock, you wouldn't notice an angry screaming bolder heading directly at you from in front of you. at about 4 is average, 7 is twilight attention to detail, and 10 would be skilled detective level.

Endurance: is how much damage your character can take before they are either dead, or out of the fight, at about 1 your again about as flimsy as fluttershy. 4 is about average, a royal guard would be at 7 and an elite would be at 10.

Charisma: at 1 you wouldn't be able to talk your way through a McDonald's menu, 4 is about average, typically a noble or polititicion would have, and at 10 you would be on par with sunbutt herself.

Intelligence: at 1 and your dumb af, 3 is the average, at 4-5 you would be on par with the average scholar, at 7 you would be on par with Twilight and at 10 you would be on par with the old infinitely wise martial arts guru.

Agility: at 1 you'll be falling over your own shadow.... somehow. 4 is about average, at 6 your on the avagrage assassin creed assassin level, and at 10 your on par with ty lee from avatar.

Magic:1 is almost no, so about diamond dog, 2-3 is , minotaur, earth pony and pegasi level 4-6 is unicorn level there are a few acceptations to this but that is typical, twilight is about a 7. Kirin typically have 7-9, at ten is where a master of magic is at, such as arch mages, only special individuals have this such as starswirl the bearded, any higher than this and your reaching demigod and god tier. magic is broken into amount and control, one who has a high amount on par with a 10 could still be classified as a 4 if they lack sufficient control, and visa versa.

Speed:1 your neck and neck with tank, 4 is average, 7 is at rainbow dash's level, 10 and your dancing with Whis

combat skill on a case by case basis, sufficient to say the highest you can normally get with this is about an 5 being on might guy's level. an 8 is roughly on par with lord beerus's level of skill not power, and at 10 your going toe to toe with whis, again not in terms of power.

so to keep from some Mary Sue/Gary Stues from being created and give a better idea at what your characters stats should be if you want it to be accepted i'ma add a little system to help.

here is the state system.

combat ability cap 5
in order to raise combat ability your character needs to be in the story.
5 is might guys level of skill up until the 7 gate, if your character was a 6 in combat skill he/she would be like if might guy was in the 8th gate constantly without harming himself. remember your combat skill isn't your strength or endurance, but attributes to how well you can use them in a way.

Shining armor captain of the guards skill level is only at 3, Octavia is at 4. having a skill level of 6 or higher would put you at a level of being able to take on an entire army by yourself, with ease, the average guard has a combat skill of 2, and the normal civilian has a combat skill of 0. Nick himself only has a combat skill of 2.

later tonight I will update this again, but for now I have to get to work. Nick's state sheet will be added tonight for reference.

Nick himself only has a combat skill of 2. having a combat skill of 1 would put your character as a untrained heavy brawler. The highest your character can get without some form of actual training weather it be while in the guard or otherwise is a 1, remember, just because your character is a tough person doesn't mean they are a black belt. so if you want your character to be at say 3? they would need to either be a guard of some sort or a mercenary with experience, or simply taken some martial arts classes. getting to 4 is difficult as this is like jonin level in Naruto and I have already explained 5 so lets move on.

now the stat system, remember this is just for determining how powerful and skilled your character is in these attributes, your character still needs to be a fleshed out character, these traits just help me understand how strong your character is. I'm good with stat sheets, so I use it as a tool for determining things in a story.

now, each character will start off with the above amount for each trait, it will be effected by things like race, background and augments, augments I will decide on how strong it makes the character as some like to use it to make their character a bit to op.

Endurance: 100
Charisma: 100
Intelligence: 100
Agility: 100
Magic: 500
Speed: 100
Bonus: cosmic elemental: (able to become all possible elements)
considered the ultimate war beast there are only 3 in the world.

the highest any trait can go is 7, you can bring ONE trait to 7 that isn't there naturally.

REMEMBER these are simpy references for making your characters capabilities. simply giving me a stat sheet and a picture in the form of words will not get your oc accepted. the farther they stray from these standards the less likely they are to be accepted. for example, an earth pony able to use become fire for some reason will not be accepted unless the reason is good. something like say, he was experimented on against his will and gained this power? won't do it, maybe if he/she had a far lessened version of it like minor fire bending, but it simply wouldn't work. it would be best to make such a character a unicorn or kirin as they can use pyromancy, such a thing as experimented on could give them the ability to turn into fire as they already could use a similar ability naturally, not like second nature naturally, but as in they could learn the skill where as something like a minotaur could not.

later tonight I will update this again, but for now I have to get to work. Nick's state sheet will be added tonight for reference.

Nick:

Able to acquire new DNA. Able to morph body based on the DNA he possesses and can do so to change his attributes, except intelligence and charisma.
Turnip God: able to traumatize almost anyone with a turnip.
Chitin armor (when active light +1 END/medium +2 END -1 SP/heavy +3 END -2 SP - 2 Agi)
Familiar Mark (Unfinished): grants a link between all connected to the mark to share magic, knowledge and other special abilities like the hive mind.
A-Class Unicorn DNA: can now make bone like structures specialized for channeling magic, slight mana generation.

new rules will be added as needed.

Will you accept an alicorn OC?
He's far from god-tier, if you're at all concerned.

I have a Kirin Dragon hybrid he is black with a green underbelly. He is the size of Kirin with all the strength of a full-grown dragon and the magic of both but only knows 4 spells. 1 spell is similar to Ultima from Final Fantasy another is a spell from Dragon Quest 9 called magic burst, another spell from Dragon Quest called Omni heal and another spell that drains Mana from all enemies around him. He's not book smart but he's a fighting genius in all forms of combat his personality is a combination of Vegeta from Team Four Star and Alucard from Hellsing Ultimate abridged he's been cursed with eternal youth but he can still die it just takes a lot to take him down
He is a Warrior from around the time before Discord was sealed in stoned the first time by the princesses. Discord was taking in the chaos one day when Black night son challenged him to a fight to free the Land. he was cocky because no other fighter had ever laid a finger on him he's a prodigy he's a fighting genius among both of his races so he thought he could beat Discord they both fought and he knocked out one of discord's teeth. So Discord got Serious and soundly beat him but then Discord decided to have fun with him after beating him and made it so he couldn't die to anyone outside of combat he trained and trained hard thinking that if you train hard enough he could challenge Discord again and maybe win but when he came back Discord was within Stone and now he wanders the land looking for a challenge Worthy of him

His name will be Shadow Light, he was originally a white maned black coat thestral in the time before nightmare moon. He originally was somewhat guarded against others he didn't trust due to tension in the capital, but was outgoing and friendly to those he knew. He is kind to those that are innocent but will not stand for injustice when he can do something about it. He was captured by thestrals that weren't all that into protecting the citizens of Equestria while he was coming back from a late shift tending to the weather at the time. They experimented on him against his will in a secret facility with black magic as well as different rituals to create a new kind of power for themselves. In the end his mane color became like the sky in the Twilight realm in legend of zelda Twilight Princess, his wings also changed so that one was white but the other was black like it had been. He also gained the ability to manipulate shadows however he wants from the experiments. Eventually he managed to escape into the forest around where he was after killing the thestrals that did that too him and went into hiding. During his time in the Everfree forest (probably about 3 years) he had gained control over his new abilities ( he can make shadow weapons and creap through the shadows completely melding with them as well as turn invisible while in shadows for a period of time that he can increase with practice. He is about as fast as rainbow in the air but is far more careful in his flying). His cutimark (which he earned after all was said and done) was of two twin swords, one light, one dark, criss-crossing each other with a white and black wing on ether side with illustrations of light Shining underneath the two wings sharing the light and dark theme as well. He had spent 3 years fighting the beasts in the forest as well as hunting and scavaging, so he is an adept fighter with quick reaction time as well as a large knowledge of plant life tho he is not as book smart as Twilight is, he is hurtable and sometimes gets a little too carried away at times and gets injured, but usually keeps a lvl head.
After some time though, luna and Celestia had found him for the murders of the ones who experimented on him and before he was even given a chance to explain, was turned to stone. Now he's just waiting to be freed in a unknown location somewhere in the world, so he can live his life and maybe tear the princesses a new one for not letting him explain himself.

Strength: he'd be a 3 since he had to survive in the everfree for 3 years.
Perception: would be an 4, again for similar reasons so as to not get mauled.
Endurance: 3, getting constantly battered by wildlife in the beginning of his 3 years toughened him up a lot.
Charisma: 2, he hasn't had much interactions since he went into the everfree and subsequent stoning but can at least converse with others when he needs too.
Intelligence: is a 3 for his extensive knowledge of plant and Animal life as well as his ability to make traps and plan out him moves.
Agility: 3 he has had to contest with manticores, hydras, timberwolves and many others so he had to become quick on his hooves to stay alive.
Magic: 1, his abilities don't stem from magic so he still has only his regular thestral magic to use on wether manipulation, rather they stem from his mind to manipulate shadows.
Speed: he is around rainbows lvl of speed so a 3 without being able to go super sonic unless he were to be given a reason to push himself to that extreme, so for now he can't do it, nor does he know about it.
Combat skill: I'd say 2 since he's only really fought wildlife.

1.) NO GODS

What about someone uber-powerful that fits the 'brilliant but lazy' trope? If it's acceptable then I'll give a very basic outline, to be filled in further if it peaks your interest.

One of my OC's is as powerful as an alicorn, with a borderline genius intellect, but he chooses to live as an ordinary unicorn because he refuses to get involved in the type of shenanigans that the rest of the cast gets into on a regular basis. Due to a lack of practice he has massive amounts of raw power but little to no skill in wielding it... kinda like twilight as a filly, but he's a full grown stallion. This means that if you can get him motivated he'd essentially be perfect as an apprentice character to the protagonist. Perhaps something with the caribou?

Would you be interested more details, or should I go sit in the corner now?

4269024 sorry, alicorns are considered deity by default. kirin have magic that allows them to fly like pegasi, if you want a flying magic user.

4269472 alicorns are at weakest as strong as lord beerus, uber powerful would be at strongest freeza's level.

Name: Garik of Gryphonstone
Race: Gryphon
Gender: Male
Strength: 5 Perception: 5Endurance: 5 Charisma: 3 Intelligence: 3 Agility: 5 Magic: 2 Speed: 4 Combat Skill: 3
Bonus: hawk eye (able to see things that are far away clearly)

An ex-soldier for the gryphon army that was once part of their elite precision strike force the Sundering Talons. He is a fading grey fur color with dull red feathers, a single out-of-place gold feather rests off-center on his head in memory of his first-mate. His size is that of a few inches above the average gryphon height along with a few pounds heavier than normal. During his service to the gryphon empire during its numerous skirmishes against several diamond dog raiding parties he had distinguished himself when his squad was ambushed by hostile dogs and he singlehandedly fended them off while his team fell back but he was captured when one of the dogs came from behind and knocked him unconscious. When he finally came to he found himself tied up in a prison cell and was left to rot when he refused to tell the dogs how to break through the nearby gryphon-held town walls to plunder and pillage them with ease.
He soon broke out from his imprisonment when he antagonized one of the guards to the point of starting a fight and used the guard's own weapon to both kill the guards and cut himself free from his rope bounds. Soon after escaping from his cell he killed and wounded as many guards as he can before making it to the surface and reported back to his commanding officer and as a result earned himself a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant.
He has earned several medals and awards for the fight against several diamond dog incursions, several raids against diamond dog raiding parties, and the occasional feral beasts from the wilds getting too close to civilized gryphon lands but once it was over and there was no more fighting to be had he left the military and started to drift around the world, always looking for a fight or something to fight for, as long as the price is just right. He is for the most part a very blunt person and will say whatever is on his mind, regardless of what other people may think but he does know when to keep his beak shut when it is necessary. He also once took down a hydra den by luring the beasts into a ravine and crushed them by getting the hydras to attack the walls with their heads to create a landslide.
He is equipped with metal scale armor with an under layer of interlocked chains and leather padding, carries with him a longer than average broadsword, a short sword for close quarters and for distance an experimental automatic crossbow (it is like a crossbow but with an ammo drum underneath the bow and it is capable of firing a bolt every second).
Is unwilling to work with other races unless he is left with no other choice, the pay is good or they are capable of cooking a good stew, he also never breaks out of a deal because he has a firm belief that if you start something you better finish or else it just isn't worth starting to begin with. Has a deep hatred for diamond dogs for the death of his mate.

4269545 ...So is that a 'not interested'?

4269866 More like a polite..... "Not in your life."

Bio-

Name: Arcanum Folklore

Age: 35 in 1 L.R (Luna's Return) 40 by The Ether War in 6 L.R

Occupation's: Former- Clerk in the Drunken Dragon Pawn Shop from 978 C.R. till 984 C.R., Gallic Foreign Legion Squad Officer circa 984 C.R. (Celestia's Reign, or 16 years before the show) Rank by the end of the Shiba-Gallic War of 982-987 C.R. Lieutenant). Detective, Occultist, and Monster Hunter from 987 C.R. till 1005 C.R or 5 L.R. (Luna's Return) Current- Commander of the Horus rouge mercenary group fighting on the deserts of northern Zebrica in the Ether War from 5 L.R. till 11 L.R. (Imagine WWII with Weird Science, and Horrifying Gothic and Lovecraftian uses of magic. Oh and it's the fault of Unicorn Nazis. Don't worry Equestria remained neutral, doesn't mean he did though.)

Folklore is mortal, and as such will die by a well placed bullet like any other mortal pony, griffon, or zebra.

Like any other unicorn, once his horn is severed or blown off and he tries to use magic the ether backlash will cause his head to explode like a watermelon with a stick of dynamite inside.

Though once he notices that he doesn't have a horn anymore he wont try to use magic, but as a result all of his abilities are rendered useless including his ability to sense Ether, forcing him to rely purely on his guns and natural adrenaline fulled strength, or any weapon improvised in the field.

While he can turn-off his nerves to push himself to be able to reach earthen strength (but he isn't as solid as an earthen, meaning that he can punch a hole through a concrete wall but his hand, arm and elbow will completely be shattered and be left with as nothing but a bloodied stump starting at his elbow), and keep going no mater the injury. He isn't invincible, bleeding out without a chance to lay low and catheterize his wounds will kill him. And you can only break your legs on so many places until they become useless whether you feel pain or not.

He is incapable of teleportation, and making magic shields without the aid of Etherelectric (Or electric if you prefer) generators. Which is why he relies so much on stealth and illusions to get an upper hand on opponents. He also uses telekinesis to use random crap (debris) as cover or shielding, and often also uses that same crap (debris) as projectiles.

While he has resistance against poison and toxins, high doses of radiation and lack of oxygen can kill him, and Chlorine Gas is as lethal to him as it would be to any other pony or griffon.

Details: Folklore is a knowledgeable, skilled, yet somewhat average in raw magical power, unicorn magician with a quick-wit and a cynical disposition. He has been in the Paranormal Investigation field for nearly twenty years, and has bared his fair share of both physical and mental scars that come with regularly facing the kind of Eldritch insanity that would have driven most ponies into suicide. Addicted to caffeine, painkillers, and mental stimulants, he basically carries at least three pill bottles around at all times. Despite this, he mostly keeps himself together, and is considered a bit of a folk hero in his home of Sheol's Kitchen Manehattan. He regularly wears a black dusty woolen trenchcoat and matching black felt hat. He is aware of what he calls the "true nature of the world", and considers that the return of Luna signals the beginning of a profound change in the course of Equine history.

He is generally quite sociable, but he is prone to mood swings if he isn't in control of a potentially dire situation. He has little patience for spoiled Canterlot nobles, and he doesn't think very highly of the Royal Guard's capabilities. He possesses a razor sharp intellect and a penchant for trickery that comes with strangely creative uses for what most ponies consider relatively trivial magic, and over the years has developed several ways to use it to aid in both survival and investigation.

His friends, family and home city come first. And while he can behave like a gentlecolt --as he often does around the presence of mares-- he generally only reserves that for places that call for it. He often sympathizes with the "unique" and the downtrodden, due to his own status as a third generation Celt-Equestrian.

He enjoys music, particularly jazz, blues and classical. He also maintains a steady daily exercise and meditation regiment, and reads the paper every morning with some particularly strong espresso.

He maintains a fairly strong circle of friends, and a web of contacts that he has built over the years that aid in more dire situations. Some of them question his sanity though. Though that is not surprising for him, he often questions it himself.

Fact: He is a recovering alcoholic, and relapses a few times during his investigations in Canterlot. Because of an incident involving this, he is called to the Spade Pub in the Canterlot Narrows to participate in illegal basement fights. He does so a few times to pay the property taxes on his uncles old building. Most of the money was made by secretly wagering on his victories, and the manner of such victories.

Fact 2: The way that he uses Magic is based on the practices of both mythological and real life mystics. Outside of magic. He is a decent markspony, a competent boxer and he was the Athena University fencing champion for two years in a row. He uses particular herbs to either, capture or repel malicious spirits like Hellboy's Arbustus or Ginko's Biter Weed from Hellboy and Mushi-shi, though they also took this from real-world historical practices from Shintoism, and Ancient Roman and Greek God Cults. He also can "cloud ponies minds" with the use of an amulet. And uses it in a similar way that the Shadow uses his hypnosis to "cloud men's minds", not to mention he had a similar preference of terror tactics during his first couple of years.

Fact 3: Chrysalis desires his head on a silver platter for thwarting a Changeling infiltration of the Manehattan local government way back in the year 994 C.R. He also was the one to truly kill King Sombra. Sombra's horn survived him exploding, so it possessed and physically deformed a nearby Crystal pony. "It" escaped and wandered northern Equestria, devouring hobo's and drifters in three different cities to regain some of "It's" former strength. "It" was eventually tricked into a trap by Folklore, "It" was later decapitated, and chopped to pieces with the use of a hardware store bought 15-Bit ax, and then burned with a gallon of lantern oil and a spark of pyrokinesis. As one is expected to do so on a Stage 3 "Evil Dead" possession incident.

Fact 4: Was a part of a loose alliance of vigilantes and oddities known as the Manhattan Adventurers Club. Members of such include, A.K Yearling (Daring Do) and Lady Sight (Zecora), Dr. Bronze Savage, Rocketeer Wrench, Master Yip, and Doctor Redheart.

Verkoth does not remember whether she always had her powers, or obtained them somehow. She enjoys listening to nature, going for flights, reading, training to become stronger with her powers, and fighting
You can change the appearance if it is a little too human for your liking to a kirin

4271217 I didn't say Kyuubi no Kitsune.

4271590 that's actually the real lore behind them, it's said that a kitsune starts of with one tail and gains one for every thousand years so a six thousand year old kitsune would have six tails. once a kitsune turns 9000 years old they gain their final tail and extraordinary power.

4271590 for all intens and purposes a kitsune would have to either only have one tail if you wanted them to join the main group, as a kitsune with 2 or more tails would be on demigod or near god level. not today but tomorrow ima add a stat sheet showcasing the average sets for each race, and sure, why the duck not i'll add kitsune to the roster.

4271630 i have also heard in some cases its done in skills that define them

4271630 Well, the character I was going to go with has only one.

His name is Kenzin, and is just shy of three hundred years old.
He's a wanderer, and when asked why, he says he simply hasn't found a reason to stop yet.
While openly kind and personable, sometimes even childish, to those he likes and considers friends, he comes across as apathetic or indifferent to those that don't know him, but he's fairly quick to open up to travelling companions.

He favours the use of chi (or ki, whichever you prefer to call it) over magic.
He carries a zanbato, but never uses it, saying he's holding it for a friend and would rather not get it dirty.
His fighting style is varied, as he switches between Karate, Jujitsu and Gentle Fist techniques at random. He also can use the Drunken Fist at an advanced level, but won't drink unless someone else is supplying the alcohol.

His hobbies are meditation and building/fixing pocket-watches.
If he's ever not occupying his time with work, training, travel or one of his hobbies, he can get... strange.
The most common examples of this are attempting to lick his own forehead and making tea for anyone he's near before insisting they drink it and tell him how it is.
While still considered fairly young among his own kind his comparatively advanced age can show itself to other races in serious moments.

4269545 i edited my oc submission if you wanna take a look bro. Let me know what i need to add or change to have a shot of getting in. (Keep in mind his abilities are purely the result of some messed up experiments the thestrals put him through to gain more power, he didn't ask for it.)

Alrighty then here's mine:

Name: Cairn Song

Race: Kirin
Sex: Male

He's precise, kind, quiet, moderately patient, as well as prefers the company of close friends. Unfortunately has difficulty making new ones. But when you're there, you're there for life.

Willing to be an ear to your troubles but is unwilling to let someone waste his time.
(Oh yeah? Your fifteenth girlfriend dumped you? Oh that's horrible. Yeah sorry to hear that. I’m sorry, but I have to wash my hair. I'm closing my door now.)

Suffering painfully due to childhood internal injury.
This has left him lethargic, but many who do not know see it as him being lazy.
Self medicated, taking some of his stronger medicines for himself.
Is sterile, but has normal function besides. Hates children.

Enjoys cooking, from braised salmon with lemon hollandaise, to caramelized vegetable kebab.
but recently cannot eat much, or taste things very well. Dislikes salt.

Is trained in sewing, (Foodamancy), medicine and surgery, has a fascination with Necromancy.
More for the study of a life that was well-lived, rather than anything creepy.
(Like living in tombs or crypts and raising the dead while wearing a black cloak.) Despite his interest in Necromancy, he looks decently healthy rather than gaunt and pale.

Can contact (recently) deceased to give closure to family and give last rites.
Can heal minor flesh wounds.(cuts, hematoma's, sprain's).
Can improve healing of larger wounds (stop infection, slow blood-flow).
Of course the opposite is also true. He can cause wounds to swell, fester, infect, and bleed profusely.

He works as an Apothecary, but is frequently called out to give last rites to either the soon-to-be
Or recently deceased. Sometimes asked to help with those that die under questionable circumstances.
He prefers to live on the outskirts of towns and cities, as he enjoys the quiet much more than the
fast-paced hustle of inner-city life.

Dislikes arguing, but if it's about something he feels passionate about, someone is being overly stubborn/stupid (Just lost a fight but refuses to seek aid or rest), or gets dragged into something. He isn't afraid to yell your ears deaf.

Prefers to “Discourage” fights rather than outright brawling, tipping the scales out of an enemies favor with his magic. Hopefully allowing his opponent to escape alive (if not a little harmed), sees early deaths as a waste.
(A “Bandit turning over a new leaf” story is a lot more palatable than “Bandit dies slowly, cold, and alone in the woods, with no-one to hear his cries, as opportunistic creatures eat him alive”.)
Is willing to be swayed on this if the reason is appropriate. (Cradle-Robbing Baby-Stranglers and the like.)

I wonder how often he looks through these and those from the private messages he must be getting to find OC's that aren't either terrible or overpowered because from the updated message he made I can see at least 2 that are good enough for the story.

4304820 same, see a thing about an oc for me isn't that they are overpowered... to an extent. it's when an oc is made that simply won't work. like an internal magic user using external magic. aka an earth pony wielding magic like a unicorn. the stat system was implemented to give a sort of structure so people didn't make a character whose lowest trait was a 5 and the rest were 7 or higher. the max anyone can go with one trait is 7 and can have only 1 trait at that level that isn't there naturally.

4305011

Folklore:
Strength: 3
Perception: 7
Endurance: 4
Charisma: 6
Intelligence: 7
Agility: 4
Magic: 5
Speed: 3
Combat Skill: 3
Race Bonus: Quick Mana Recovery (able to recover mana 3 times faster than other races.)
Personal Bonus: "Trinket" an mulet that "Clouds Minds". Telepathic, brainwash, and mind control immunity due to decades worth of mental training.

4305011 I am wondering though, does my oc that I made out of nowhere because I was bored one day and that I was wondering if my oc will ever be accepted by someone elses story even have a chance to be accepted.

4305608 it's not a bad oc, I would use it, except for the fact that Griffins and changelings have good relations... :twilightsheepish:

4306843 O really? Well then...hrmm looks like me must rewrite his history profile to fit in with your story, since I didn't really know that the relations between gryphons and changelings were on good terms. Damn you!

4271348 I worded it wrong, you need to flesh out his personality better, it just seems a bit generic.
