Human mind is prone to generate some audio illusions in different conditions. Thats how some people hear voices at swamps at night. Maybe game simulates such condition and players hear what their characters expect to hear during stressfull situation. I thinkn you can use it and develop some usefull abilitys for protagonist. Sinister voice is scary voice, especially when the protagonist is trying to be much less scary than she is.

Yeah it's actually pretty unsettling. I was playing E.Griffin last night and had perks that made my jetpack recharge faster, so usually I was always ahead of the group.
Lemme tell you that I thought somebody entered my room when the whispers started and it creeped me the hell out.
