Doctor Perseus Reviews: MLP S6E20 "Viva Las Pegasus" *SPOILERS* · 12:28am Sep 18th, 2016
Following the tradition of my more recent reviews, I'll just cut to the chase. I really liked this episode.
It's been quite a treat throughout these past two seasons seeing members of the main six who don't normally get paired together getting paired up. If I recall, I believe the last Applejack/Fluttershy-centric episode we got was Season 4's Bats. And it was really nice to not only see Applejack and Fluttershy play off each other but also show them being thrown into a setting that is far from their own comfort zones.
Seeing Flim and Flam again was a welcome treat. Out of all of the very few recurring villains on MLP, they certainly have the rockiest history. Their debut episode is either seen as one of the greatest episodes of the show or an overrated mess (I fall somewhere in the middle, don't love it but enjoyed it enough) and their Season 4 outing was received with an overwhelming
In my opinion, this is their best episode so far. It was really interesting not only to see them temporarily fight with each other but also put their con skills to good use. But, we can't add them to the list of redeemed MLP villains just yet as the end alludes that they're going to continue their old ways. Though there is potential for them being somewhat more good. At this point, I would say that they're in the same gray area that Varrick was in during Season 2 of The Legend of Korra.
Gladmane was a pretty good villain for this episode. Funny Elvis similarities aside, he was one of those villains who you love seeing get taken down. He got the comeuppance he deserved and it was really satisfying. The other characters had interesting designs but, aside from that, there's not a whole lot to say about the other supporting characters.
And, finally, it was nice to finally see Las Pegasus. This city has been alluded to since the early days of the show (most notably appearing on the official Equestria map) so it was great to finally see what this city was like. And...it's exactly what we expected: a ponified version of Las Vegas. I'm not complaining. It's what I expected and it had a great design. But there are few surprises to be found aside from maybe some Las Vegas landmarks hidden somewhere in the background probably.
So, overall, I really liked Viva Las Pegasus. What did the rest of you think of this episode?
Thus, we've entered the last stretch of episodes.
I also really liked this episode. I go all into it in my own review of course.
You know, I've also seen Flim and Flam as being sort of like the pony versions of Varrick as well.
Credit to MariusIoannesP for pointing this out. While Applejack and Fluttershy are talking, you may notice in the background a certain stallion from last season who nobody was particularly fond of.

That's right, it's Svengallop from The Mane Attraction, and judging by his expression here I'd say he's not doing too good. I guess Amy Keating Rogers' tweet about him getting blackballed from the entertainment industry was true. Serves him right if you ask me. Though as MariusIoannesP also pointed out, this does raise a possibility. If there is a Season 7, we might get an episode where he and Gladmane team-up to get revenge on Applejack since she was the one who ruined their careers. They might even reference this episode when Svengallop explains how he and Gladmane became partners by bringing up the above scene.

But remember, it's just a theory. A Pony Theory. Thanks for reading.
