In hindsight, this probably should have gone up last week in response to the ballgame episode. Oh, well. You're getting it now!
Also, I forgot the name of this story, didn't have it in any of my bookshelves, so it was a pain to find. I'm loosing touch with the classics!

Welcome, fans, to the first season of our newly minted Equestrian Hockey League! Today's game pits season one characters in an all or nothing game for the finals.
And here we go! Applejack passes to Rarity. Oh, but Rarity gets checked by Prince Blueblood and is down!
Blueblood heads straight for the goal, flanked by Moondancer and Hoity Toity. Ah! A surprise move by Trixie who appears out of nowhere and slips the puck away! Trixie now has the puck, being chased down by the Ponyville Golden Leafs and takes a shot.
Denied! Twilight Sparkle with the save and Trixie is sent to the penalty box for naughty behavior.
Twilight makes a break for it, lines up...
PONYVILLE GOOOOOAAAALLL!!

Wow, I'd forgotten that was a thing. o.O That story was hella popular back in the day.

I know, I'd even forgotten what it was called. Took me all morning to find it which is why I posted this in the afternoon.
Man, I loved this story something fierce back in the day. Gary Bettpony! Remember that? And the 8-ball suspensions? Or Trixie as Sean Avery! Aw yeah!
It was a story with plenty of flaws, but damned if I didn't enjoy it.

I remember it being big back in the day. Not as big as Past Sins or Fallout: Equestria, but it definitely had a sizable following. I didn't get too into it myself because I'm just not that big of a sports buff, plus I know next to nothing about hockey.
There was a sequel, but apparently a few chapters in, the author called it quits and hasn't been heard of since.

Yeah, he posted a summary of where the sequel would've gone; it would've been pretty paint-by-numbers, as he himself admitted (the sequel kicked off with Discord breaking free--you know it's old, because it's from back when that was a viable plot kickoff!--stealing the EoH, and using them to power up a new hockey team in the EHL. The story would've had a lot of "in this chapter, they play the super team, and recover Loyalty.")
I will forever love that first chapter of the sequel, though, because it gave us the best joke in the series: after Discord takes over the league and institutes his new super-team, Celestia tells the girls not to imprison him again unless he does something actually evil--second chances and all. When Twilight points out that he just turned Gary Bettpony to stone and took over the EHL from him, Celestia replies "Twilight, weren't you listening? Something evil."
Making fun of the world's worst commish is never not funny!
