Featured... what? · 7:36pm Aug 14th, 2016
So, uh, my story's in the featured box.
I've wondered many times how featuring works. From what I've seen, stories tend to stay up for 24-48 hours until something popular gets submitted or gets updated.
Anyone have any ideas how certain stories are chosen and some aren't? I know there are a lot of popular stories that don't get featured, and a lot of stories that do get featured that may only be because the writer has a lot of followers who keep up to date and generate a lot of quick traffic.
Basically one of the site moderators reads your story and likes it.
My understanding is that there's some sort of algorithm that measures traffic, and chooses stories based on traffic and genere. I could be totally wrong though.
4149734 I'm unsure that's how it works. I think it's just traffic, comments per hour, ect.
Again, congrats! Super cool.
And 4149872 is right. There's an algorithm based on a metric called "heat," and 2 of the slots on the front page are always reserved for updated stories.
4150681 I guess that explains why stories like Three More Things and Wily's Wittle Wub keep popping up. And I'm pretty sure Wily's Wittle Wub is the one that knocked me out of the featured box lol
4150681 I'm pretty sure the three bottom slots are reserved for updated stories, not two.
The bottom 3 are for updated previously featured stories.
