New Story, "Chrysalis: Saviour of Time" · 7:32am Aug 13th, 2016

Here I shall speak about a new story that I'm getting around to posting after the page break.

Well, it's time to put up a story I've been writing off and on for a little while now (mostly off as I focused on other stories). It is titled, as indicated in the blog's title, "Chrysalis: Saviour of Time". As I'm guessing it'll need to go through that whole confirmation that it's appropriate for the site through the mods first before it becomes viewable, I'm going to refrain from any major spoilers here. (edit: it seems I'm eligible for auto approval, so it went up almost immediately)

In this story, I'm going to mix together a couple things I really enjoy. First is time travel, and second is Chrysalis. Despite it involving time travel and Chrysalis, there is absolutely no inspiration from the season 5 finale where Chrysalis won in an alternate time line. I had actually begun writing this considerably before that episode aired. If you want a proper inspiration for this story, a better place to look would be "My Twilight Facade" by Axelsempai where a human takes the place of Twilight thanks to angering a wizard and has to live her life.

The basic concept for this is that a pony from the future (Time Keeper) where time travel is not only possible, but used as a form of tourist attraction in the form of guided tours through historic moments in time, accidentally kills Twilight Sparkle before she does anything important and tries to fix the problem by convincing Chrysalis to take Twilight's place, mostly because he fears the repercussions if he admitted the mistake to ponies in his own time that they'd end up killing him.

The story is going to a combination of re-imagined episodes, things that happen purely thanks to Chrysalis being there instead of Twilight that are not based on anything in particular from the cartoon, and stuff that relates directly to time travel and/characters related to that time travel.

Tags are kind of annoying. I wasn't sure what kind of tags to use for this story. Should I go with adventure? There's certainly going to be adventure stuff, and seeing how the first major episodes being re-imagined would be the Nightmare Moon episodes, it more or less begins with one. However, there'd be a lot of focus on slice of life stuff too because that's what the cartoon does. Would comedy be appropriate? Is that my goal? To be primarily humorous? I don't know if it properly applies either. What about the dark tag? The entire premise of this story is built off of Twilight Sparkle being crushed to death by a time machine. Even if I envisioned that as being darkly humorous, that's still dark, right? In the end, I've settled on Science Fiction, Alternate Universe, the dark tag and Sex tags, with explanations on further relevant genre stuff in the description.

The cover image is a blatant rip off of what I did for my other story, Altered Visage, which I blatantly ripped off for my own avatar. I'm not exactly a visual kind of artist, and don't much feel like scouring random images online for the sake of finding the one that gets me thinking "good enough" as I'm sure I'll never find something that screams perfect to me. It works, but I'm not going to say it's something truly special or anything. In my mind I can kinda see images of Chrysalis, clocks or some such thing representing time, and some kind of vortex that it's all swirling around in, but I can't really draw, so it's not happening, and even if I did get an image like that I don't know if I'd even end up liking it.

Currently I have a prologue and two chapters completed, with a third chapter that is longer than all the previous combined nearing completion. I'm not going to stick myself to any particular kind of update schedule, I'm just going to wing it and update whenever I've finished writing a chapter and feel that it is ready. In the end, this is probably going to be a very long story, much longer than anything else I've posted here before, though perhaps not as long as something else I'm working on would end up being.
