Yo-Kai Wednesday: Youkai are watching you crawl around in gunge pipes! · 11:39am Jun 1st, 2016

Watch! What time is it?

BLOG TIME!

WHIS!

Moth's Thoughts:

I'm an idiot. :facehoof:

Okay, so...in Yo-Kai Watch, you can get Crank-A-Kai Coins by scanning QR Codes from official Yo-Kai Watch merchandise. None of which I have because I don't have money to spend.

You can also get a QR code off Disney XD's official uploads of each episode of the anime to Youtube. Which I didn't even know about (the QR codes, not the uploads, I knew about those).

It never occurred to me that people would be uploading the QR codes all over the Internet, until Thursday, 5/26, when I happened upon it by chance: a massive Tumblr archive of Yo-Kai Watch QR codes.

I have a few dozen Crank-A-Kai coins to burn through now.

Including 17 Five-Star Coins (the ones almost guaranteed to churn out rare Youkai) I got from finding a full list of Five-Star Coin passwords online.

I also started savescumming at the Crank-A-Kai for the first time this week, since I have a huge bag of coins and don't really want them to go to waste--which would've happened for damn sure on Saturday, when three Five-Star Coins would've netted me a second Goldenyan, a Sheen (I already have Sheen), and a Mega Exporb. I quit out of the game and tried again with an Excitement Coin, a Pink Coin, and a Light Blue Coin and got the uncommon Youkai Confuze, the S-rank Crank-A-Kai only Youkai Damona (who is permanently replacing Corptain in my core team), and a Holy Exporb.

For those of you who don't have the game yet/haven't played much/haven't done the research: the outcome of every Crank-A-Kai Coin you have in your bag is determined at 6am every morning. I think. They could also be hard-set once obtained and won't change at all. (This seems to be the case, as two days in a row I got Goldenyan, Sheen, and a Mega Exporb with the same three Five-Star Coins. -_-) In any event, if you don't get what you want, it's best to reload and try different coins/wait a day/mess with your system clock (NEVER advised!)

But even armed with all this ammunition to get all the rarest Youkai, there's still one Youkai available in the US version of the game that I will probably never obtain, and that's Pandanoko.

Because to get Pandanoko, you have to StreetPass someone who has the game and has Pandanoko.

I...don't get out of the house very often, and I only even take my 2DS with me when I'm going out of town, so I don't even get that many StreetPass tags, and the odds of me StreetPassing (a) someone with Yo-Kai Watch who (b) has Pandanoko are worse than the odds of me winning the Powerball jackpot.

Katie's Summer Diary #12h

Dear journal,

Another week of searching for all the Youkai I haven't befriended yet.

Also another week of battling the master of darkness, Awevil, in the sewers every day. Mom's starting to worry about that gunge smell that keeps following me around... :pinkiesick2: Luckily, I managed to befriend him after only three battles, so there's only one more rare Youkai I'll ever need to go into the sewers to find. Hmm...I'd better get on that one...

Oh, and something really interesting happened this week! I found a list of strange passwords. They were just...there! They were printed on bank stationery, so I took them to the bank and gave them to a teller. She smiled, congratulated me, and handed over a big bag full of "Five-Star Coins"! I thought there must be some misunderstanding, but Whisper told me those coins were very rare and special Crank-A-Kai Coins that have a high chance of unlocking the most rare, most powerful Youkai!

I guess the coins are mine since I turned in the password list...? Well, okay! I can't wait to try them all out! It's a shame I can only use three of them per day...

...but the very first one I used gave me the super-rare Youkai Goldenyan!

I also got super-lucky with a pink coin and got the super-rare Youkai Damona!

...and again with a light blue coin, which netted me Shadow Orochi!

This week, I decided to put time and effort into finding certain hard-to-find Youkai, such as Kapunki, Skelebella, and Slacka-slash. Of course, spending so much time hunting rare Youkai means I didn't go fishing or bug-hunting. Oh well! There's plenty of summer left for that.

If you need to StreetPass someone with Pandanoko to get it, how does the first person get Pandanoko? Hacking? Nintendo event? Looking underneath a truck by the docks?

3989395 The way I understand it, several employees of Level-5 in a densely populated area acted as "patient zero" for Pandanoko. The same thing was done in Japan. The problem is, The United States is not Japan, so that method of distribution is...horrible.

3989420 I see. I wonder if the HomePass cheat would help work around that. Odds are they've reserved an IP address for Yokai players to focus on, adding to the chance that a Pandanoko player would get in the mix.

I haven't fired the thing up in ages, not since my old 3DS broke and I had to start all my StreetPass things over. Locally, people are idiots. They don't bother setting up StreetPass because they either think:

A) It will drain their battery,
B) Folks can steal puzzle pieces from them, or
C) Hackers can use it to brick their system.

I had a kid wailing next to me at a doctor's office once because he forgot to turn off StreetPass and I stole his puzzle piece. His parent didn't understand when I showed that I got a copy, and he got a copy of one of mine, and was yelling at me to give it back. Security had to separate us.

3989466 I actually had to look up what HomePass is, and I have to say it's...not something I'd personally use, because it sounds like too much work and too much screwing up my home network for something too pointless to bother with. That having been said, checking GameFAQs boards tells me Pandanoko is so rare via StreetPass and Yo-Kai Watch passes via HomePass are so uncommon that there's no point in even trying.

I've sent an e-mail to Level-5 asking them to cook up a more fair distribution model for Pandanoko for North American players because the way it's passed around in Japan doesn't make sense in the US and Canada.

3989466 people think you can steal puzzle pieces?

there are no words...no one should be that stupid.
someone should really make an info thing letting folks know just what streepass can and cant do.

3989466 Children aren't terribly bright sometimes. It usually happens when the parents aren't terribly bright.

3989605 Dude, it was a child. Children are sometimes just LIKE that. All you can do is hope he grows up smarter.

3989540 I actually have a range extender for my home wifi, and I can customize the IP address and name on it. That way, my actual home wifi never gets messed with. Still, it's not worth the hassle. I just found it interesting that it could be done, so on truly dead days, I get myself a few batches of passes for my games, or at least used to.

3990028 That's lucky for you.
