Yo-Kai Watchday: Youkai are watching you take a Dromp! · 3:21pm May 18th, 2016

Watch! What time is it?

BLOG TIME!

WHIS!

Moth's Thoughts:

Level-5 is more sadistic than GameFreak ever was.

Like Pokemon, there are Youkai that only show up if it's day or night. There are also three that exclusively appear on rainy nights (there are actually about six or seven that will ONLY appear in town locations on rainy nights, but roughly half of them can be obtained elsewhere/through other means; Swosh, Siro, and Uncle Infinite are the only ones who are locked to rainy nights). Rainy nights are a rare thing. Getting any of the above to show up reliably is next to impossible. And when you do get one to show up? There's no guarantee you'll get their Youkai Medal.

And then there are the fuckers that you don't even get to battle because they run/fly so goddamn fast and randomly that you can't keep the lens on them in search mode, and they get away before you can get a lock. *coughSirocough*

During the most recent rainy night, I encountered Siro three times (and only actually got to fight him twice), Swosh three times, and Uncle Infinite twice. The only one whose medal I walked away from all that with (a good 6 hours' worth of gaming, by the way) is Siro.

And then there are the eight ultra-rare Youkai you can only obtain from the Crank-A-Kai. These eight can only be obtained with Crank-A-Kai Coins, not Play Coins (found that out recently), and you would honestly have a better chance of obtaining them if the Crank-A-Kai were truly random. It's not. The coins are on a set payout pattern.

Haven't gotten any of them yet. :ajbemused:

After I finish up the quest to get Kyuubi, though, I'm devoting more time to bug catching and fishing to farm rare bugs/fish to trade for Coins so that I can try to get those fuckers.

On a lighter note, the game is more forgiving about randomly dropped key items needed to complete certain Youkai befriending quests (Tengu, Dromp, Zerberker, Kyuubi). The longest stretch of battles it's taken to get one of the key items is about 12 (the thing I needed for Dromp). I'm working on getting the Golden Tofu for Kyuubi now, and hopefully it won't take long.

Oh, and it'd be nice if Level-5 and Nintendo would distribute the Jewel Coins through the Friday download so we could get the Jewelnyans.

Oh, one more thing: I've added a medal count to the Medals Collected section of the blog content. And yes, I know there are 237...ish...actual Youkai, but there are, by my count, 223 you can actually collect--the bosses don't factor into that count.

Katie's Summer Diary #12f

Dear journal,
Since I'm so busy every day lately doing stuff for random people, running all over town looking for new Youkai friends, fishing, and hunting for bugs, I don't really have time to sit down and write a new entry every day, so from now on I'll just make a weekly record of all the stuff I've done in this longest, funnest summer ever!

Another week of wandering around searching for new Youkai friends...

I spent some time exploring the old mine tunnels behind the Wildwood Shrine. There's an old shrine behind the waterfall! I offered a flower I found in the Youkai World at the shrine, and a powerful Youkai named Dromp appeared and attacked! After I beat Dromp, I got his Youkai Medal!

I also finally fixed that broken mine cart near the entrance. What I found on the other side was...underwhelming. It was just the boss of all the Youkai in the mind, Duwheel, and he attacked me because he's bald.

Sometimes, I just don't understand these Youkai...

Oh! I also finally got around to finding the entrance to Infinite Inferno. Go me?

Another cool thing happened: I found the legendary Tengu! He...wasn't as legendary as I thought he'd be. But now he's one of my Youkai friends!

I also met a powerful Youkai named Zerberker at the graves behind Shoten Temple, who also joined my supernatural entourage.

Amazing things keep happening lately! I got pulled into Oni Time, and instead of that big red jerk, I ran into a big BLUE jerk! He was a LOT tougher to beat than the big red jerk, but I still beat him!

Speaking of Oni Time, there are doors in Infinite Inferno that take you right into it without warning! Like this place isn't exhausting enough! Oh, and also all those boss Youkai I fought over the summer are here looking for a rematch.

Another interesting thing that happened this week: for a while now, I've been going to the shrine at Mt. Wildwood every day to make an offering. Well, this Youkai showed up at the offering box! His name is Almi, and apparently he's the only one making any profit off the offering box! He tried to mug me, but I ended up mugging him instead! Out of his Youkai Medal, I mean.

Oh, and I went fishing at the ocean this week. Like...a lot.
