Nah, you're not alone. I think most of us miss the Elements in some way. And who knows, maybe we will see Rainbow Power again in the season finale.
You're definitely not alone; I'm new-come to the fandom and the loss of the mystical stuff, just at the same time when the whole map thing was going down, really made me go grr. I suspect that part of it was that they were trying to make Starlight Glimmer a credible threat to Twilight, some of is that it's a kid's show with continuity issues (namely the willingness to sacrifice continuity for a given story idea), and the writing team transition all rolled up into a ball.
Another problem, I think, is that they just don't have an idea about what to DO with Rainbow Power. It was unleashed to take down the single most personally dangerous threat (Starlight's wrecking the universe was more change-a-pebble-to-alter-the-avalanche sort of thing) we've seen, even more so than Discord. I hope the changeling teases (despite the context of the scene, I still think that was a changeling and not a mirror clone in the most recent ep mean we're going to see Chrysalis come back and be badass.
I also hope they finally give up on claiming the comics are canon, really. The origin that they gave for Chrysalis made me cringe, and the tacked on Sombra/Celestia romance made me want to slam my head into a wall. Sombra and Chrysalis are "maybes" on rainbow power if for whatever reason the Crystal Heart isn't affected and Chryssi being able to take Celestia wasn't _just_ her being drunk on lovemuffins. There's been some good stuff, some necessary but ham-handed stuff too, but mostly, I got the comics from Humble Bundle and I was REALLY disappointed.
