S6E08: "A Hearth's Warming Tail" · 9:01pm May 14th, 2016
Very quick, non-spoilery review: I really liked it. Okay, not the most original idea for an episode, but done very nicely and with much better pacing than some eps I could name. A couple of relatively minor faults, but it was good enough to overcome the weirdness of being shown in May. This might be my favourite ep of the season, and it's close enough to a five that it stands a chance (a small one, admittedly) of being upgraded on re-watching. Edit: it was indeed upgraded! This is a five now! ★★★★★
I'm happy to hear you liked it. :)
Only minor gripes I could have with the episode is that maybe some of the songs (particularly Pinkie's one) were drawn out a bit too long, but otherwise this was wonderful!
Being very blunt, it always really frustrates me when I see people completely write-off a film or TV show episode just because the story isn't completely original (not that you're doing that, of course). I know people are perfectly capable of forming their own opinions, but seriously, my eyes are rolling at the fandom right now.
3945805 Loved it, and am seriously considering a five-star rating now. The Pinkie song is the one that was recorded with a live band, so I guess it's unsurprising that they made the most of it. I don't personally mind the length -- after all, it's under two minutes all told, a lot shorter than "Smile"!
As for the other point, I love this particular story, so any good adaptation gets my vote. This one is second only to the Muppets' version IMO, and that is high praise coming from me.
