    Happy Holidays!

Whatever you're celebrating, and even if you're not celebrating anything, I hope you have a great day today.

Me? I'm going to spend the day either sleeping, or playing Season of Discovery in World of Warcraft Classic; I've got a guild to run now, after all, and I need to devote as much time as I can to keeping it going.

    Stay awesome.

    Hey Ho

First of all, today marks 11 years to the day since I joined Fimfiction. Go me, I guess?

Secondly, I'm still around, though I've been pretty busy as of late.

    Are you at Griffish Isles?

If so, then I hope you're having fun! For those of you who don't know what that is, here's their website.

I'm not at the convention myself, since I couldn't afford it this year, but I did take out an advert in the con book for my horse words. If you're here as a result of said ad, please let me know!

That's all for now, remember to stay awesome!

    In Case You've Missed It

I recently published a new story, the first one I've written for nearly two years. My Muse decided to pay me a visit, meaning I was able to whip this together; here's hoping said Muse sticks around for a while!

Break It Down · 10:32pm Apr 6th, 2016

A few people have expressed an interest in owning a printed copy of Of Horses And Horses, while others have said that printing would be prohibitively expensive.

Allow me to explain why this is not exactly true.

Number crunching and rambling after the break.

I have now edited the story to be more suitable for printing. Using the Century Schoolbook font at 14pt, on 'Royal' paper (6.1 inches wide by 9.2 inches tall), the story takes up 120 pages.

Looking through comments, about five people have said they'd be interested in a printed copy. As for printing, a friend of mine has suggested that I use Doxzoo, as they offer great quality at a good price.

So, I went to their website and used their Price Checker to get a quote:

Only £3.82 ($5.40) per copy? That's pretty good.

Delivery for all five is only £8.41 ($11.88) — which works out at roughly £1.68 ($2.38) for each individual book.

So, the total cost of each book can be worked out by adding the cost per book to the delivery charge per book.

£3.82 + £1.68 = £5.50
($5.40 + $2.38 = $7.78)

So these are the minimum amounts I would need to charge, not including delivery, for each copy. And since I would want to make a profit, each copy would be priced as follows.

Total Cost Per Book + (Total Cost Per Book / 2)
£5.50 + £2.75 = £8.25
$7.78 + $3.89 = $11.67

I should point out that these prices don't include delivery. Also, signed copies would cost an extra £10 ($15). (Implying anyone would even want a signed copy)

To summarise, it wouldn't be all that expensive to print this thing — provided that everyone who said they wanted a copy kept to their word and actually purchased one, of course. American buyers would also have to face the indignity of large postage fees and potential import costs.

Anyway, I just wanted to share these little tidbits of information with you all. I fully intend to get a copy of the story printed off for myself; I will let you know how it turns out.

Until the next time: thanks for your support, and stay awesome.

(A cookie to anyone who figures out what song I was thinking of when I titled this post.)

So how dose this work exactly?
I'm still reading it but I would like to know the processes and how we pay?

Just let me know how much and I will buy a signed copy

Import and large postage fees... That won't stop me from placing my order lol

Is this legal?

I've taken a peak and I must say... the bare cost of a hardcover book is £5.53. Hehe.
(by the way I must apologize, earlier I'd screwed the A5 format, it's not that small)

If you don't mind my suggestion using the "small novel" format ~5" x 7", instead of the royal 6.1" x 9.2".
Makes a difference of 4.52 w/i^2 instead of 2.82 w/i^2, at the same amount of printed pages.

But these are my personal opinion of course.
And I apologize for my english, it's too early in the morning and I just got up.

3853451 No one has ever really given a definitive 'yes' or 'no' for this. Technically speaking, fanfiction is a gray area when it comes to legality (at least, it is here in the United States). Fanfiction is rarely professionally published or commercially distributed, so this kind of issue is rarely seen. However, to date there are no recorded Right of Publicity suits regarding noncommercial fanfiction.

Basically, as long as you aren't making a lot of money off of it and aren't making waves, it should be fine.

3853766 Thanks for the info!

Using 5x7 increases the page count to 232, which in turn increases the printing cost to £9.41 per copy (not including delivery). I've orded a printed copy on Royal, so I'll see how it looks when it arrives.

3854276 That's why you're supposed to lower the font :(

If I make the font any smaller, it'll be hard to read.
