Hello, everybody! Time to talk about the next chapter of John Honeycrisp Apple!
This had taken a little bit longer than I had hoped, mostly because there was something in it that I wasn't quite satisfied with, though admittedly it wasn't too big a thing. It was fixed. Next problem I have is with the next chapter, where I'm not satisfied with something much bigger and will need to put considerably more effort into rewriting.
Anyway...Flashback time! We get to see a dozen years ago from the perspective of the not yet "Big" Macintosh. As many have predicted, he is responsible, at least in part, for his father's disappearance. Poor guy, he must be horrendously traumatized by his experiences. I chose to make the line where Honeycrisp comforted him to match up rather closely to the line where John was comforting Mack the horse.
Complete honesty time... I had absolutely no idea what I was doing with this story until some time after posting the second chapter. I hadn't even thought about Big Macintosh and how it would make sense that he had something to do with Honeycrisp's disappearance given the similarities between the two Honeycrisp's lives until after somebody pointed out that it seemed plausible in the comments. I saw that, snatched it up and decided to run with it. Initially, Big Mac had not visited John in the hospital early on because he simply had chores to do (just as I had said in the comments in response to a commenter), but after stealing adopting that idea, I changed that to him being ashamed and afraid of facing his father again. I think it's a much better story for that, so thanks, people!
