What To Do With "Resists"? · 2:56am Mar 31st, 2016
Borderline NSFW conversation about what to do with a potential sequel to Fantasy and Fulfillment below the break. You've been warned.
Quick tl;dr: I wrote a flash prompt, Resists, that could follow and be a part of Fantasy and Fulfillment. Good idea? Or make it its own story?
Fantasy and Fulfillment ended with a sequel hook, leaving the gate open to have Twilight and Celestia engage in all sorts of kinky fun. The very first mature flash prompt I did for the Lightning Round (which can be found here) kind of played on that idea. It introduces itself as a brief conversation of "Hey, I (Twilight) wanna try all of these things" and then getting started on them. It also introduces the idea that Twilight and Celestia would swap roles, switching between dom and sub. And it introduced the pet name Little Dove for Celestia.
With "Resists", a sub Celestia is tied to a bed and awaits a dom Twilight. It's a relatively cute and sweet approach to them being in a dom/sub relationship, and spiritually follows from "Exploration" and therefore Fantasy and Fulfillment. In my eyes, a full reading of all of those stories changes the meaning of the end, where Twilight says "the same, but different." Either she wants to share that experience as the sub next time, or she'll be the sub for the next round of whatever sexy fun they get up to.
But...
Resists also stands on its own. There is nothing besides a few callbacks ("Little Dove"; "the same, but different") that would actually tie Resists to Exploration or Fantasy and Fulfillment. In particular, Resists is a complete reversal of the roles: Twilight is the dominant party throughout and Celestia is receptive to and appreciative of that domination. On its own or as the inception to a larger series of dom!Twi sub!Tia, Resists works well. Integrating it into the existing canon of FaF would take a relatively significant amount of new writing. There are a lot of options that can be pursued in that integration, but it's going to take time and effort. Otherwise, some editing that would be done anyway gets done and Resists becomes a starting point to a new series.
For those of you who've read FaF and the prompts, is that a direction worth pursuing? Or should that story stick to the current dom!Tia and sub!Twi?
I'd say go with them both being switches. The emotional dynamics would be interesting to get into. I can see both of them craving both roles, but for very different reasons from each other.
Y'know, this is one of those times when you step back and look at yourself and realize you're thinking seriously about the emotional dynamics of a BDSM relationship between two magical cartoon horses and just have to say 'Huh, so I guess that's a thing I'm doing now. Welp.'
I personally prefer sub!Twi most of the time, but she's also a creature of curiosity that I could definitely see wanting to explore both sides of an issue, so if that direction interests you then I'd say go for it.
I always prefer switch for these characters, so that's my input on the matter.
